One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

SALAAM WALEKUM Brother:

My friend (she) read nikah with a boy, without informing boys dad n mom. but girls dad n mom were knowing that they r going to do nikah, in fact sis n brother in law of girl were there for nikah of both. then afterwards they told this to boys dad n mom. they did not agree, now after 20 days when they agreed, they want that they should once again read nikah for the sake to let every one know that "they have not been in nikah before, now only now they r in nikah". now my ques. to u is "does islam allows double nikah" can they both once again do nikah for their families izzat i,e respect?

Answer:

Perform nikaah again

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Provided all the obligatory conditions of an Islamic ‘Nikaah’ were fulfilled the first time, there would obviously be no need for one to perform the same rite of ‘nikaah’ again to marry the same person! The first ‘nikaah’ would more than suffice as a lawful marriage in the Sight of Shariah Law and of Allah Subhanah.

If one has performed the first ‘nikaah’ in secrecy of one’s loved ones or the society one lives in, and intends to perform a second ‘nikaah’ with the same person only so that their first or ‘secret Nikaah’ remains a secret in the sight of their loved ones and the society one lives in…..the performance of such a second ‘nikkah’ would not only be lies and deception, but it would be akin to making a complete mockery and a jest of the sacred rite of ‘nikaah’ in the Sight of Allah Subhanah. The believers who sincerely fear Allah and the Last Day must absolutely abstain from doing anything which would make a mockery of the Laws and Rites of Allah Subhanah!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 231 (part):

……Do not treat Allah's Signs as a jest but solemnly rehearse Allah's favors on you and the fact that He sent down to you the Book and Wisdom for your instruction. And fear Allah and know that Allah is well acquainted with all things.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 45 Surah Jathiya verses 33-35:

33 Then (on the Day of Judgment) will appear to them (the evil-doers) the evil (fruits) of what they did, and they will be completely encircled by that which they used to mock!

34 It will be Said: "This Day We will forget you as ye forgot the meeting of this Day of yours! And your abode is the Fire and no helpers have ye!

35 This because ye used to take the Signs of Allah in jest, and the life of the world deceived you." (From) the (torment of that) Day therefore they shall not be taken out thence, nor shall they be received into Grace.

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
