Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's
Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
Q.WHAT IS THE WAY OF DOING SAJDAH OF QURAN
Q.SUPPOSE IN ZUHAR PRAYER WE JOIN THE IMAM
IN SECOND FOURTH RAKA THEN IN THIS WE HAVE
TO READ "SUBHANAKALLAH HUMA WABEHAMDIKA WATABARKASMUKA WATALA JADUKA WALA
ILHA GHIRUK" OR AFTER IMAM TASLEEM WHEN WE STAND UP.
(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)
Answer:
Sajdah Tilawat Quran
In the name of Allah, We
praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah
guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide
them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam,
no dai, nobody!) worthy of
worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His
slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Your Question: WHAT IS THE WAY OF DOING SAJDAH OF QURAN
Fiqh-us-Sunnah
Fiqh 2.40
Whoever
recites a "'Verse of prostration (sajdah)" or hears a "Verse of
prostration" from the Holy Quran, should stop the recitation, face
the qiblah, pronounce the ‘takbir’, prostrate,
then make the takbir again, and rise from the prostration. This
prostration is known in Islamic Jurisprudence as ‘sajdah-tul-tilaawah’ or ‘the
prostration of recital’. Naf'i relates that Ibn 'Umar said: "The Prophet
(saws) would recite the Qur'an to us and when he (saws) came to an ''ayyah of
sajdah,' he would make the takbir and go into sajdah and we would (also) make
the sajdah." This is related by Abu
Dawud, al-Baihaqi, and al-Hakim.

Fiqh-us-Sunnah
Fiqh 1.132a
Sunnah acts
of prayer, The Opening Supplication
It is
preferred for the person to begin his prayer with one of the supplications that
the Prophet (saws) used to begin his prayers. This occurs after the opening
takbir and before the recitation of al-Fatihah. Some of the supplications that
have been related are:
1. Reported Abu Hurairah, "When the
Prophet (saws) made the opening takbir for prayer, he (saws) would be quiet for
a little while before his recitation. I asked him, 'O Messenger of Allah
(saws), may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, why are you quiet
between the (opening) takbir and your recitation? What do you say (at that
time)?' He (saws) said, 'I say, O Allah,
make the distance between me and my sins as far as you have made the distance
between the East and the West. O Allah, cleanse me of my sins as a white
garment is cleansed of dirt. O Allah, purify me from my sins by snow, rain and
hail." (Related by al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, an-Nasa'i and Ibn
Majah.)
2. Reported Ali, that when the Prophet
(saws) stood for prayer, he (saws) would make the takbir and then say, "I
have turned my face to the one who created the heavens and the earth as a
sincere submissive (person), and I am not one of the polytheists. My prayers,
my sacrifice, my life and my death are all for Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.
He has no partner. That is what I have been ordered and I am of those who
submit. O Allah, you are the King and there is no Lord besides You. You are my
Lord and I am Your slave. I have wronged my soul and You are aware of my sins,
so forgive all of my sins. No one forgives sins save You. Guide me to the best
character. No one can guide to the best of that save You. Turn me away from its
evil, and no one can turn me from its evil save You. At your beck and call, all
the good is in Your hands and evil is not to You. And I am for You and to You
are the Blessings and the Exaltedness. I seek your forgiveness and return unto
You." (Related by Ahmad, Muslim, at-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and others.)
3. It is related from 'Umar that the
Messenger of Allah (saws) used to say, after the beginning takbir, "Glory
be to You, O Allah, and to You is the praise. Blessed is Your Name and Most
High is Your honor. There is no Lord besides You." (Related by Muslim and
Duaraqutni)
4. It is a preferred act for the one in
prayer to seek refuge from the Shaytaan between his opening supplication and
his Qur'anic recitation. Nafa' ibn
Jubair reports that the Prophet (saws) is reported to have said, "O Allah,
I seek refuge in you from the Shaytaan, the outcast." Said Ibn al-Mundhir, "It has been
related from the Prophet (saws) that he would say, 'I seek refuge in Allah from
the Shaytaan, the outcast' before reciting (the Surah Fatihah)."
It is considered
preferable and a Sunnah to make a supplication and praise Allah Subhanah after
the ‘takbir’ and before the recitation of the Surah Al-Fatihah in the first
rakah of one’s prayer, regardless of whether the prayer is obligatory or
voluntary.
If one joins a
congregation in the middle of the prayers (2nd, 3rd, or 4th
rakah), there is absolutely no harm if one wishes to make the supplication
immediately after one has declared the ‘takbir’ symbolizing the start of his
prayer. The majority of the scholars and jurists in Islam are of the opinion
that the Messenger of Allah (saws) only recited a supplication and praise after
the ‘takbir’ in the first rakah of his prayers; thus it would be best and
purest for the believers to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet (saws) and recite
the supplication only in their first rakah immediately after they have declared
the ‘takbir’ symbolizing their start of prayer.

Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever
