Not spending time with wife

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

assalamu alaikum my husband does'nt spend time with me.when ever i like to talk to him he just tells me that "i am reading islamic books and gaining knowledge" in whole 24hrs he spends on me only 5 or some times 10 min.according to him he has provided me with good food, shelter and clothing and that is enough for me and i should be happy with that. whenever i am in need of moral support he never gives me any support. and feel too lonely all alone and depressed. and some times when we go to meet any of my cousins with in 1o min again he will take out his mobile and start reading ebooks for gaining islamic knowledge with out talking to any of them. please tell me that what does islam say regarding this.

Answer:

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sister if your husband does not bother you other than what you have mentioned then it is our humble advice that you bear this attitude with patience in the hope that as time goes by he will InshaAllah change for the better.

We say this because every person is different and if you look around a lot of women will give anything to have a husband like yours who does not demand too much and does not have any evil qualities. If he is studying Islam he will soon realize that it is part of his duty to give you time and see to your mental welfare as much as it is to provide for your material needs.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
