Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

There is a story about Guru Nanak visiting Mecca and that at night when he went to sleep he slept with his feet facing the Kaabah. When the local people took objection, Guru Nanak moved his feet and the story says that the Kaabah moved as per his feet`s direction.

I don`t know how true this story is as I have not found any Islamic website confirming the authenticity of this story, however there are a number of non-Islamic websites that relate this story.

Could you please confirm or provide a source that verifies whether this story is true or not.

Thank you.

Guru Nanak Kaabah story

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Beloved Brother in Islam, in all matters of the ‘unseen’ or of any ‘miracles’, the believers are to believe with certainty only if it is confirmed either by our Lord Most Majestic in His Glorious Quran or by the authentic Sunnah of the Noble Messenger of Allah (saws).

If anyone else claims to have performed or witnessed a ‘miracle’ which is not confirmed by the Quran or the Sunnah, the believers can neither confirm it with certainty, nor deny it. Intelligence, Wisdom, Justice, and even basic common-sense dictates that the onus of proving or providing evidence for a claim should always be on the ones claiming that an ‘out-of-the-ordinary’ event or a ‘miracle’ supposedly took place, never on the ones who hear it!!!

Allah is our witness, the Sacred House of Allah never ever changed its position for such Noble Messengers of the likes of the Choicest Friend of Allah, Prophet Ibraheem (a.s.) or even the Last and Final Messenger of Allah, Prophet Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (a.s.); and someone expects the believers to believe that this Blessed and Sacred House of Allah changed its position for a person who openly professes disbelief in Allah, His Messengers, and the Last Day??? Some people who have not been bestowed with honor by the Lord Most Gracious, try to bestow honor upon themselves by trying to belittle the sacred things which are held in Honor, so that some of its ‘greatness’ and ‘honor’ might shine upon them…..but who is there who can bestow honor on someone when Allah does not Will to bestow honor upon them?

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Surah Hajj verse 18: Seest thou not that to Allah bow down in worship all things that are in the heavens and on earth, the sun, the moon, the stars, the hills, the trees, the animals, and a great number among mankind? But a great number are (also) such as are fit for Punishment: and such as Allah shall disgrace none can rise to honor: for Allah carries out all that He Wills.

Your Question: Could you please confirm or provide a source that verifies whether this story is true or not.
Beloved brother, any ‘out-of-the-ordinary’ event or a ‘miracle’ which is claimed by anyone and not confirmed by either the Quran or the Sunnah cannot be believed with conviction by those who sincerely believe in Allah and the Last Day; regardless of where, how, and when the event being claimed took place or what source confirmed or denied it! Unconditional belief is due from the believers only to the Truth of the Quran and the authentic Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (saws).

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 17 Surah Bani Israel verse 81: And declare, “The Truth has come and falsehood has vanished. And falsehood is a thing that must by its nature, vanish!”

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), he can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), he can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
