Giving zakaah to the people of Chechnya

Is it permissible to give zakaah to the people of Chechnya in the light of the current circumstances, i.e., the Russian invasion?

Yes, it is permissible to give zakaah to the Muslims in Chechnya, whether they are unarmed civilians in the refugee camps or elsewhere, so long as they are among the poor and needy, and many of them would also come under the heading of wayfarers (travellers who are cut off from everything); or they are among those who are fighting the Russian kaafirs, because they are mon those whom Allaah describes as “[fighting] for Allaah’s cause” [al-Tawbah 9:60 – interpretation of the meaning]. We ask Allaah to grant victory to the Muslims and to inflict defeat upon the kuffaar. May Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions, and grant them peace.
