Answer:

Great salaam enter empty house

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 24 Surah Noor Verse 61 (part):

….But if ye enter houses salute ‘anfosakum’ (yourselves and/or each other) a greeting or blessing and purity as from Allah.

Firstly sister, your grand-mother is absolutely right that it is amongst the etiquettes of Islam that one should offer an Islamic greeting of peace when one enters any house, even one’s own….regardless of whether there are people present in the house or not.

The wisdom behind declaring the ‘salaam’s’ when one happens to enter a house which is empty is to proclaim peace upon oneself and also upon the Angels of Allah who are always present with oneself and perchance also in the house one enters. And Allah Alone Knows Best.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
