One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assaalm o alaikum.

One of my colleague and his wife perform hajj. his sister who is doing alim course in India told them that on the 10 day of ha j after they finished sacrifice and hair cut they have to perform tawaf(tawaf-e-ziyarat)if they did not perform this, wife is not halal for them unless both of them make tawaf-e-ziyarat.

Please tell is it correct? and what is tawaf-e-ziyarat.

Answer:

Wife unlawful in Hajj

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: ….what is tawaf-e-ziyarat.

‘Tawaf e Ziyarah’ also known as ‘Tawaf e Ifaadah’ is an obligatory rite of the Hajj pilgrimage, which depending on what type of Hajj one is performing is best performed on the 10th of Dhul Hijja.

Your Question: …that on the 10 day of ha j after they finished sacrifice and hair cut they have to perform tawaf (tawaf-e-ziyarat)if they did not perform this, wife is not halal for them unless both of them make tawaf-e-ziyarat. pleae tell is it correct?

When one is in the state of ‘ehraam’ for pilgrimage, there are certain acts which are prescribed as unlawful which would normally be lawful for one when not in the state of ‘ehram’. For example, cutting of the hair, covering of the head, clipping of the nails, conjugating with one’s wife, etc.

Shariah Law allows that a pilgrim after returning from Muzdalifah on the 10th of Dhul Hijja may remove their ‘pilgrim-apparel’ after they have performed the rite of sacrifice and shaved their head. But because they have not yet performed the obligatory rite of ‘tawaf-e-ziyarah’, the restriction of not conjugating with their wife still remains in place until they have fulfilled that rite.

The statement of the sister who is doing the ‘alim’ course that it is not lawful for the husband and the wife to conjugate until they fulfill the obligatory rite of ‘tawaf-e-ziyarah’ during Hajj is absolutely accurate and correct.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
