Details of Luqman

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Although there are several opinions regarding the origin of Hadrat Luqman, the scholars in Islam are almost unanimous in their opinion that Hadrat Luqman was a wise and learned man and a pious slave of Allah Subhanah, but not a Prophet.

The sayings and wise counsel of Hadrat Luqman were well known to the learned people of Arabia before the advent of the Last and Final Messenger of Allah (saws).

Because the pagan Arabs who were the first addressees of the Glorious Quran had immense respect for the sayings and the wise counsel of Hadrat Luqman, the guidance of the Quran itself is uninterested in the origin or the personality of Hadrat Luqman……but rather the emphasis of the Quran is on the wise counsels and the staunch belief of monotheism which was held and preached by the revered Sage Luqman.

Because of the lack of evidence in the Glorious Quran or the authentic and established Sunnah regarding the subject, one cannot say with absolute conviction regarding the exact origin of Hadrat Luqman, the place or tribe or race which he belonged to, or during which era did he live his life…..but the overwhelming majority of the scholars and the commentators of the Quran hold the view that Hadrat Luqman belongs to the region of Yemen. And Allah Alone Knows Best.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
