Did not fulfill promise to marry.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalam wa alikum.

Beloved brother in islam, you people are doing really a great job. Thanks for your guiding as per the holy law, im a regular reader of Hadiths sent by you and got to learn something. I'm really thankful to you, hope you will help me out and guide me to do right according to our islam.

Beloved brother Burhan, my problem is that I'm in love with one religious person and we like each other from past 12yrs but we have not met once also.

We used to speak once in 6 months or once in a year. He is a daai so he knows what is right and what is wrong. He had promised me that he will send his parents with the proposal last year but I'm still waiting for him. I kept rejecting other proposals as did not want to cheat him. Don't know what went wrong now I came to know that he is getting marry to some one else. I'm badly hurt and I'm not getting what to do? I lost all hopes. As a brother please suggest me what to do at this point. Is that right whatever he did? Kisika bharosa thodna? Please help and suggest me some prayers so that I can take right decision. It might seem silly but I want your help.

Expecting earliest reply.

Jazakallah khair

Did not fulfill promise to marry

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 177:

177 It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces toward East or West; but it is righteousness to believe in Allah, and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance out of love for Him for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer and practice regular charity; to fulfill the promises which ye have made; and to be firm and patient in pain (or suffering) and adversity and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the Allah-fearing.

If one has promised something to someone, it would be considered piety and righteousness on their part in the Sight of their Lord that they strive their utmost to fulfill the promises they have made.

Respected sister in Islam, every individual has a right to choose whom they wish to marry, and if for any reason, the person whom you desire to marry has made a decision to marry someone else, you have no other choice but to accept his decision.

Respected sister, as painful as it might currently be for you to accept the decision, as a sincere believer in Allah and the Last Day, you should know with absolute conviction that it is not always necessary that what we like or believe is good for us might not actually be the best for us in this world or the Hereafter….Allah Subhanah Alone Knows, and we know not.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 216:

216 ……But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah Knows and ye know not.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisaa verse 19 (part):

It may be that ye dislike a thing and Allah brings about through it a great deal of good.

Respected sister in Islam, keep your trust and your belief in the Power and the ‘Qadr’ of your Lord Most Gracious, Most Merciful….and know and believe with total and absolute conviction that your Lord Most Bounteous is more than Able and Capable of providing you with someone who is much better than what you have seemingly lost!

Allah Says in His Holy Quran Chapter 35 Surah Fatir verse 2:

2 What Allah out of His Mercy doth bestow on mankind there is none can withhold: what He doth withhold there is none can grant apart from Him: and He is the Exalted in Power Full of Wisdom.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale Imraan verse 160:

If Allah helps you none can overcome you: if He forsakes you who is there after that that can help you? In Allah then let believers put their trust.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 9 Surah Taubah verse 51:

Say: "Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us: He is our Protector"; and on Allah let the believers put their trust.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 33 Surah Ahzaab verse 3:

And put your trust in Allah Alone; and enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.

Your Question: Please help and suggest me some prayers so that I can take right decision.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verses 155-157:

155 Be sure We shall test you with something of fear, and hunger, some loss in goods, or lives, or the fruits (of your toil); but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere.

156 Who say when afflicted with calamity: "To Allah we belong and to Him is our return."

157 They are those on whom (descend) blessings from Allah and Mercy, and they are the ones that receive guidance.

Respected sister in Islam, there is no better declaration a believer who is afflicted by any calamity or suffering or pain can make than to keep their full trust and faith in their Lord and declare: ‘Inna lillahe wa inna ilayhe rajeoon’ (To Allah we belong and to Him is our Final Return)”.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,
