One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

The company where i work gives me a yearly mediclaim of Rs 15000 on medical bills. I have heard that the pharmacies give false bills by taking some commision of say 6% or so on the total amount. If i dont claim the bill, the company debits the tax and credits the balance at the end of the year in the employees salary (WHICH MAYBE SOME Rs 2000 debit on taxes). However my intension is that-If i get the false bill from the pharmacy i can give the needy/ poor the same amount (2000) which is unnecessarily going to the govt. Can i do that ? It is the intention that counts..Do revert to me.

Answer:

Dishonest wealth to charity

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sahih Muslim Hadith 2214 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘O people, Allah is Good and He, therefore, accepts only that which is good!’

Dear and beloved Sister, all forms and manifestations of dishonesty and deception are absolutely unlawful in the Sight of Allah Subhanah; and it would neither be appropriate, nor lawful, nor piety, nor righteousness for one to dishonestly claim an amount, regardless of whether it is from an individual, or a company, or even a government, etc…..and give that stolen amount to the poor and needy as ‘charity’! Allah Subhanah is Good and Pure, and He only accepts that which is good and pure, thus such unlawfully earned wealth spent on charity would have absolutely no merit in the Sight of Allah Subhanah, but in fact such dishonesty would count as a sin in the Scales of Justice of the Lord Most High, Most Majestic.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
