Assalaam alaikum wrwb,

brother in Islam.may Allah swt reward you for the dawah that you are doing.

My husband recently bought a house in India and half of the sum we could afford to pay up and the rest half we are having to pay by taking a loan from the bank.inspite of me telling him time and again that it is haraam to deal in interest and that we should not take the loan he insists on doing so.i prayed to Allah swt during the entire month of Ramadan to some how avert this deal in which riba is involved.ive even explained to my husband that i am free from what he is doing and that what he is doing is haraam(since due to legal hassles the property will be in my name). My question -am i involved in his sin(since i initially encouraged him to buy the property).please advise me as to what i should do.am i a sinner.and how should i repent and ask Allah swt for forgiveness.

Answer:

Involved in riba interest

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Beloved Sister, if you have striven to the best of your ability to discourage your husband from indulging in ‘riba’, even if for legal reasons your husband were to register the property in your name, you will be absolutely blameless of the sin of indulging in the crime of ‘riba’ by your husband.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
