One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Respected Sir,

Assalam-o-Alaikum,

As per Shia Scholars, If a child is breastfed by a woman who has milk without result of a pregnanancy, there will be no relation of Razaat between that child and woman. What do you say on this matter as thay claim that all their opinions and fatwa are based on Quran and Hadiths.

Answer:

Sucking of child

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Al-Muwatta Hadith 30.4

Yahya related from Malik from Thawr ibn Zayd ad-Dili that Hadrat Abdullah ibn Abbas (r.a.) said, "The milk which a child under two years old sucks, even if it is only one suck, makes the foster relatives haram."

The scholars and jurists of the major schools of thought are absolutely unanimous in their opinion that if a woman were to release milk, regardless of whether her milk release was as a result of her pregnancy or not, and she gave suck to an infant in its infancy, a foster-relationship (raza’at) between that woman and the child will be deemed established in the Sight of Shariah Law and of Allah Subhanah.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
