Answer:

Invoke shirk graves

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 16 Surah Nahl verses 17-25:

17 Is then He Who Creates (Allah) like one that creates not? Will ye not receive admonition?

18 If ye would count up the favors of Allah never would ye be able to number them: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful.

19 And Allah doth know what ye conceal and what ye reveal.

20 Those whom they invoke besides Allah create nothing and are themselves created.

21 (They are things) dead! Lifeless!: nor do thy know when they will be raised up.

22 Your Allah is One Allah: as to those who believe not in the Hereafter their hearts refuse to know and they are arrogant.

23 Undoubtedly Allah doth know what they conceal and what they reveal: verily He loveth not the arrogant.

24 When it is said to them "What is it that your Lord has revealed?" They say "Tales of the ancients!"

25 Let them bear on the Day of Judgment their own burdens in full and also (something) of the burdens of those without knowledge whom they misled. Alas! How grievous the burdens they will bear!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 46 Surah Ahqaf verses 4-6:

O Prophet (saws), say to them, "Have you ever seen them with open eyes those whom you invoke instead of Allah? Show me what they have created in the earth? Or have they any share in the creation and control of the heavens? Bring me a Book revealed before this, or produce some remnant of knowledge in support of your beliefs if you are truthful." And who could be further astray than the one who invokes, instead of Allah, those who cannot answer him till the Day of Resurrection. Nay, they are even UNAWARE THAT THEY ARE BEING INVOKED. And when all mankind shall be gathered together (on the Day of Qiyamah), they (the so called leaders and intercessors) will become enemies of those who invoked them and they will DISOWN THEIR WORSHIP!!!

Your Statement: This ayat is in the reference to people who go to graves and ask for help--
Dear and beloved brother, there are just so many Verses of the Glorious Quran which term the invocation of others in the unseen as manifest ‘shirk’ that if we were to quote all of them for you, it would become a very lengthy answer indeed!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 39 Surah Zumar verse 3:

Is it not to Allah that sincere devotion is due? But those who take ‘awliyaas’ other than Allah (say): "We only serve them (the awliyaas) in order that they may bring us nearer to Allah." Truly Allah will judge between them in that wherein they differ. But Allah guides not such as are false and ungrateful.

It has indeed always happened that when some true and pious servant of Allah Subhanah died, some people declared him after his death as a ‘Wali’ (plural Awliya) from themselves, and shared some of Allah's Rights and Attributes with this departed person! Some made images and worshipped them, some made idols and invoked them, and some turned their graves into places of worship and invocations!

Allah Alone is All-Hearing; but some ignorant people shared this Noble Attribute of Allah with their Awliyaas and started falsely assuming that those buried in their graves can hear and respond to their supplications and invocations; this is precisely what is termed ‘shirk’ in the Glorious Quran!

Similarly, Allah Alone is All-Knowing and All-Seeing; but some ignorant people shared these Noble Attributes of Allah with their Awliyaas and started falsely assuming that those buried in their graves sees and knows their condition and has the power to help them. They thus started invoking them in their graves and this is precisely what has been termed as manifest ‘shirk’ in the Glorious Quran!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 10 Surah Yunus verse 18:

These people serve beside Allah those which can neither harm nor benefit them, and say, “These are our ‘shofa’a’ (intercessors) with Allah!” (O Mohammed), tell them, “Do you wish to inform Allah of that thing which He knows not in the heavens, or in the earth?” He is absolutely free from, and exalted above the shirk that they commit.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 18 Surah Kahf verse 102:

What? Do these people, who have disbelieved, presume that they would make My servants their ‘auliyaas’ besides Me? We have prepared Hell for the hospitality of such people.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraf verse 190-196:

They associate with Allah partners who do not create anything, but are themselves created! Who cannot help them nor have the power to help themselves! If you invite them to follow the Right Way, they will not follow you! It will be all the same for you whether you call them or keep silent. Those whom you invoke with Allah are MERE SERVANTS OF ALLAH LIKE YOU! Just invoke them, and if what you say of them be true, they will answer your prayers! Have they feet that they should walk with them? Or have they hands that they should hold with them? Or have they eyes that they should see with them? Or have they ears that they should hear with them? Tell them, O Mohammed, “Call up the partners you have set up, and then all of you sit down together and plot against me, and give me no respite. My Protector and Helper is Allah, Who has sent down this Book (Al Quran), and, it is He who protects the righteous people.”

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 10 Surah Yunus verses 28-30:

On the Day when We will muster them together, We shall say to those who committed ‘shirk’, “Stay where you are, you and those whom you set up as partners with Us.” Then We shall remove the state of strangeness from among them, and the partners they had set up will say, “You did not worship us! Allah suffices as a witness between you and us, and (even if you worshipped us), we were utterly unaware of your worship!” At that time everyone will taste of what he did. All shall be brought back to Allah, their real Lord, and all the lies they had invented will vanish from them!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 10 Surah Yunus verse 66:

Note it well that all the dwellers of the heavens and the earth belong to Allah. And those who invoke partners besides Allah, follow nothing but surmises and merely indulge in guess-works!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 12 Surah Yusuf verses 39-40:

(Yusuf said), “O my fellow prisoners, say, which is better: various lords or the One Omnipotent Allah? The lords whom you worship other than Allah are nothing more than mere names that you and your forefathers have invented; for Allah has sent down absolutely no authority for them. Sovereignty belongs to none but Allah. He has commanded that you shall not worship anyone but Him. This is the Right and Straight Way, but most people do not know this”.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Surah Hajj verse 62:

This is so because it is Allah Alone Who is the Truth, and all others whom they invoke besides Him, are falsehoods. Allah is He Who is The Supreme and The Exalted.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 30 Surah Rum verses 33-35:

When a affliction befalls the people, they invoke their Lord, turning penitently towards Him. Then, when He makes them taste of His Mercy, some of them start committing shirk, so that they may show ingratitude for Our Favors. Well, enjoy yourselves, for soon you shall know! Have We sent down to them an authority, which may testify to the truth of the Shirk they are committing.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 30 Surah Rum verse 40:

Allah it is Who created you; then provided for you; then He causes your death; then He will bring you back to life. Is there among the associates you have set up (with Allah) anyone, who can do any of these things? Glorified is He and Far Exalted above the shirk these people commit.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 35Surah Fatir verses 13-14:

He merges night into day, and day into night, and he has subjected the Sun and the Moon (to His Law); each one runs its course for an appointed term. Such is Allah, your Lord! To Him belongs all Dominion. Those whom you invoke besides Him, do not own even a blade of grass! If you call them, they cannot hear your prayers! And if they hear, they cannot answer you! And on the Day of Resurrection, they will disown your ‘shirk’. None can inform you of the Truth, like the One Who is acquainted with all things.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 35 Surah Fatir verses 40:

Say, “Have you ever seen those associates of yours whom you invoke besides Allah? Tell me: What have they created in the earth, or what is their share in the heavens? Have We given them a Book, from which they derive a clear sanction (for their shirk)”. Nay! These wicked people are only beguiling one another with nothing, but delusion.

It is indeed unfortunate and absolute and utter ignorance, that after being specifically warned by the Messenger of Allah (saws); some people who profess their belief in him and his message start making and using the graves of the deceased pious slaves of Allah Subhanah as places of worship and invocation!

If one invokes anything or anyone other than Allah Subhanah in the unseen, or if one invokes or call upon anything or anyone with Allah Subhanah in the unseen… there is absolutely no doubt that such a person will be committing the most heinous, abomination, and unforgivable crime of ‘shirk’!!!

It is the strict command and sole Right of Allah Subhanah, as the Creator and Sustainer of the World, that He and He Alone should be invoked for anything one desires and needs; for there is none in the Universe who can give anything if Allah does not will to give, and there is none in the Universe who can stop Allah if He wills to show mercy on His slaves!

If one so much so as even tries to invoke someone or something other than Allah Subhanah in the unseen, he will be committing the most heinous of crimes in the sight of Allah Subhanah; that is, ‘shirk’!!!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 72:

Whoever commits ‘shirk’ (invoking anything with Allah), Allah shall forbid for him Paradise, and Hell shall be his abode. And for such wrong doers there will be no one to help.

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
