Zakat ul fitr

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

About Sadaqat ul Fitr. I live in Sydney and it is end of Ramadan. Can I pay my sadaqat ul fitr in my home country (Pakistan), or is it supposed to be paid at the place of fasting? I think they have more needy people than Australia.

If yes, what will be the amount, that which is fixed in Pakistan or in Australia? Please reply fast as there are 2 days left in Ramadan.

Assalam u alaikum

Answer:

Zakat ul fitr

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

There is absolutely no harm or restriction in Islam if one wishes to give his zakaat-ul-fitr dues in a country other than where one lives and earns his livelihood; but the amount to be paid as zakaat-ul-fitr should be calculated on what has been fixed in the place where one earns his livelihood.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
