Unintentional error in printing aayah

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Salam
I need help!

I am a muslim revert (Alhumdulilah) and I don`t quite know how to properly read the quran. I have made a huge mistake that is causing me to stress and panick. Just last year I was married. At the time, I prepared a gift (bonboniere) for the guests who came for lunch after the ceremony. In the gift, I printed a card with ayat al kursi and its English translation under it. Just recently I discovered that the arabic text is incorrect. THEREFORE THE PRAYER HAD BEEN PRINTED INCORRECTLY! The text may have been muddled up by the computer when setting the format - I`m not sure. Almost 100 of these gifts were handed out. Will Allah swa forgive me for this as I know it is very very bad? Will I be cursed? Also what can I do to rectify this matter considering it was a while ago and I personally don`t know the families who attended that day as they are my husbands family?

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

Unintentional error in printing aayah

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 1.1 Narrated by Umar bin Al Khattab

I heard Allah's Messenger (saws) saying, "The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended.”

Respected sister, rest assured that your Lord Most Gracious will not hold you responsible or accountable for an error committed unintentionally.

If your only intention in printing and distributing a card with the inscription of the ‘Aayat al-Kursi’ was to spread the Word of Allah, and you unintentionally made an error in the script…..rest assured that not only will you find your Lord Forgiving and Merciful, but He will reward you in full for your intent behind your deed, Insha Allah.

If you have taken your efforts to locate the people to whom you had distributed those cards (even if you were able to locate even only a couple of them), it would be prudent to inform them of the unintentional error.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
