Reciting Surah Dukhan on fridays.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalaam alaykum brother. There`s an email circulating saying that the Prophet(saw) said that the person who talks when adhaan is being recited will not be able to say the shahada before dying, is this a saheeh hadith? Another question is that are we allowed to eat from places which sell pork products even though we aren`t eating it? Is there any significance of reciting surah Dukhaan on friday night(eve of friday)? Will really appreciate your answers.

Answer:

Reciting Surah Dukhan on fridays

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: There`s an email circulating saying that the Prophet(saw) said that the person who talks when adhaan is being recited will not be able to say the shahada before dying, is this a saheeh hadith?

To the best of our knowledge, there is absolutely nothing in the Quran or the authentic Sunnah which states or even implies that a person who talks when the adhaan is being recited will not be able to declare the ‘shahaadah’ before dying!

The guidance of the Messenger of Allah (saws) was for one who hears the adhaan to repeat the call of the ‘Muaddhin’.

Your Question: Another question is that are we allowed to eat from places which sell pork products even though we aren`t eating it?

Allah Subhanah has categorically declared the consumption of the flesh of swine as haraam for the believers who fear Allah and the Last Day.

But one is at absolute liberty to buy lawful products from a store or a supermarket which happen or choose to sell pork; or eat at a home or a restaurant who choose to consume or serve pork dishes….provided of course that the utensils used to cook and or serve the lawful and the unlawful products are not mixed or tainted.

Your Question: ….Is there any significance of reciting surah Dukhaan on friday night(eve of friday)?

There is indeed evidence in the practice and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (saws) who exhorted the believers to recite the Surah Kahf on the day of Jumuah.

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reports that the Prophet (saws) said: "Whoever recites Surah al-Kahf on Jumu'ah will have illumination from the light from one Jumu'ah to the next." Related by an-Nasa'i, al-Baihaqi, and alHakim.

Abdullah Ibn Umar reports that the Prophet (saws) said: "Whoever recites Surah al-Kahf on Jumu'ah will be blessed with a light that will rise from underneath his feet to the peak of the sky. This will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will be forgiven for what is between the Jumu'ah [and the next] Jumu'ah."

Related by Ibn Mardwwiyah.

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2175 Narrated by Abu Sa'id

The Prophet (saws) said, "If anyone recites Surah al-Kahf on Friday, a light will shine brightly for him till the next Friday."

Related by Bayhaqi.

Other than the magnificent reward one is promised by Allah Subhanah for reciting any other Surahs of the Quran, to the best of our knowledge there is absolutely nothing in the authentic and established Sunnah whereby the merits or significance of reciting the Surah Dukkhan on the eve of Friday night are mentioned. And Allah Alone Knows Best.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
