When Imam Hussain (a.s.) was born Jibraeel came to him with a piece of mud and said to him this is a mud from Karbala.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Brother Burhan,

The Hadith you are referring to is regarding a jew. The Prohet (s.a.w.) was referring to some ladies of a dead jew who were crying after he had passed away.

Regarding wailing and crying a s`shirk` :

1)    When Imam Hussain (a.s.) was born Jibraeel came to him with a piece of mud and said to him this is a mud from Karbala where Hussain will be massacred. the Prophet started crying, this when the Imam was born.
2) The lady Fathima (a.s.) asked the Prophet as to who would cry for my son Hussain after he is killed. The Prophet replied by saying that some of my Ummatis will cry for him till the day of judgement.

2)    3) Prophet Jacob cried for his son Yusuf so much that he lost his eyesight.

Answer:

Crying matam wailing karbala

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Statement: When Imam Hussain (a.s.) was born Jibraeel came to him with a piece of mud and said to him this is a mud from Karbala where Hussain will be massacred. the Prophet started crying, this when the Imam was born.
Beloved brother, there is absolutely nothing in the Glorious Quran or the authentic and established Sunnah which even remotely indicates or implies that such an incident took place in the noble household of Hadrat Ali ibn Abi Taalib (r.a.) and Hadrat Fatimah binte Mohamed (r.a.) at the birth of their son, Hadrat Hussain (r.a.)!

Your Statement: The lady Fathima (a.s.) asked the Prophet as to who would cry for my son Hussain after he is killed. The Prophet replied by saying that some of my Ummatis will cry for him till the day of judgement.
Beloved brother in Islam, it is only Allah Subhanah Who Possesses the Knowledge of the future; thus unless Hadrat Fatimah (r.a.) had knowledge of the future or the ‘unseen’, there was absolutely no way for her to know that Hadrat Hussain (r.a.) would be mercilessly murdered in the fields of Karbala in the future!

Beloved brother, again we have found absolutely nothing in the authentic and established Sunnah which even remotely indicates or implies such a conversation between the Noble Prophet (saws) and his beloved daughter Hadrat Fatimah (r.a.) as quoted by you.

One should be extremely careful and quote and ascribe nothing save the Truth to the Messenger of Allah (saws), for the Messenger of Allah (saws) warned that ascribing a falsehood to him (saws) is not like ascribing a falsehood to someone else!

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 2.378 Narrated by Al Mughira

I heard the Prophet (saws) saying, "Ascribing false things to me is not like ascribing false things to anyone else. Whosoever tells a lie against me intentionally then surely let him occupy his seat in Hell-Fire."

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 232 Narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas

Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘Be mindful when transmitting a narration from me. (Transmit) only that which you know (very well) for he who intentionally lies about me will find his abode in Hell-Fire.’

Your Statement: Prophet Jacob cried for his son Yusuf so much that he lost his eyesight.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chatper 12 Surah Yusuf verses 83-86:

83 Yaqoob said (to his sons): "Nay but ye have yourselves contrived a story (good enough) for you. So patience is most fitting (for me). Maybe Allah will bring them (his two sons Yusuf and Benyameen back) all to me: for He is indeed full of Knowledge and Wisdom."

84 And he (Yaqoob (a.s.)) turned away from them and said: "How great is my grief for Yusuf!" And his eyes became white with sorrow and he fell into silent melancholy.

85 They (the sons) said: "By Allah! (Never) wilt thou cease to remember Yusuf, until thou reach the last extremity of illness or until thou die!"

86 He (Yaqoob (a.s.)) said: "I only complain of my distraction and anguish to Allah, and I know from Allah that which ye know not..”

It is indeed recorded by none other than Allah Subhanah Himself in His Glorious Quran that the eyes of Prophet Yaqoob (a.s.) became white, and he (a.s.) almost lost his eyesight due to his constant sorrow and weeping for his lost son, Prophet Yusuf (a.s.).

Narrated Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (saws) said: "Allah does not punish a person for shedding tears or feeling pain in his heart. But He does punish, though He may show mercy, because of (what he utters with) this," and then he (saws) pointed to his tongue.

Narrated by Muslim.

The Prophet (saws) wept on the death of his son, Ibrahim, and said: "The eyes shed tears and the heart feels pain, but we utter only what pleases our Lord. O Ibrahim! We are aggrieved at your demise." He (saws) also wept when his grand daughter, Umaymah, daughter of Hadrat Zainab (r.a.), died. At this Hadrat Sa'ad ibn 'Ubadah (r.a.) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Are you weeping? Did you not forbid Zainab from weeping?" The Prophet (saws) replied: "This (weeping) is the mercy that Allah has placed in the hearts of His servants. And surely Allah bestows mercy upon those who are merciful among His servants."

Narrated by Bukhari.

Beloved brother, there is absolutely no harm or restriction against the natural act of weeping or crying in Islam; what the Messenger of Allah (saws) time and time again prohibited the believers was waling, and beating oneself, and tearing one’s clothes, etc. when afflicted with a misfortune…..such wailing and ‘matam’ and the singing of ‘nohas’ etc. are absolutely prohibited and forbidden for the believers who sincerely believe in Allah and the Last Day.

Sahih Muslim Hadith 2033 Narrated by Abu Malik al-Ash'ari

Allah's Messenger (saws) said: Among my people there are four characteristics belonging to pre-Islamic period of ignorance which they do not abandon: 1. boasting of high rank, 2. reviling other peoples' genealogies, 3. seeking rain by stars, and 4. wailing. And he (further) said: If the wailing woman does not repent before she dies, she will be made to stand on the Day of Resurrection wearing a garment of pitch and a chemise of mange.

The Messenger of Allah (saws) said in an authentic narration “He is not a believer, who beats his face, or tears his clothes, or wails, when afflicted by a misfortune.”

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2829 Narrated by Hadrat Ali ibn AbuTalib (r.a.)

Hadrat Ali (r.a.) heard Allah's Messenger (saws) curse those who took usury, those who paid it, those who recorded it, and those who refused to give sadaqah. And he (saws) used to prohibit wailing.

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 3122 Narrated by AbuSa'id al-Khudri

The Messenger of Allah (saws) cursed the wailing woman and the woman who listens to her.

Umm 'Atiyyah reports: "The Messenger of Allah (saws) made us pledge that we will not wail over (the dead)" (Bukhari and Muslim).

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
