One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Subject: Mistake..

Dear Brother in Islam,

Assalaamu Alaikum!

There is a typing mistake in the reference of Surah in the sabaq written bellow. In the first part of the answer, you have given the reference of Chapter 17 Surah Israa(Verse 86:89) which is Sura Bani Israel instead

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

Two names of Same Surah

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Beloved Sister in Islam, although the Surahs were revealed by Allah Subhanah, the names of the Surahs were not revealed by Allah Subhanah but were appointed by the believers only as a form of recognition of the Surahs.

There are several Surahs in the Quran which are recognized by more than one name; like Surah 9 is known by either of its two names Surah Baraat or Surah Taubah, or Surah 41 which is known either as Surah Fusselat or Surah Haa-Meem, or Surah 76 which is known either as Surah Dhahr or Surah Insaan. Amongst the Surahs which have two names is also the Surah no. 17 which is recognized by both its names: Surah Bani Israel or Surah Israa. If one calls the Surah by either of its appointed names, they would be deemed correct and accurate.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and sincere well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
