Taking money in return for doing Hajj on behalf of another

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
As-Salaamu-Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
My husband (may Allaah have mercy on him) passed away, and I want to delegate someone to do Hajj on his behalf this year. Is it correct for the one who does Hajj on his behalf to accept money for his efforts apart from the money that he will take for transportation, food and drink, or not?.
(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.

It is permissible for the one who is appointed to do Hajj on behalf of someone else to take the money that is given to him in return for doing that Hajj, even if it is more than what he spends on transportation, food and drink, and other things that he needs in order to perform Hajj. It is recommended that he intend to earn reward from Allaah for that and do whatever acts of worship that Allaah enables him to do in al-Haram al-Shareef (on his own behalf), and not just do it for the money.

And Allaah is the Source of strength.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah's Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
