Can women expose her feet in satr

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

I wanted to know a few answers to my questions –

1) For a lady do we need to constantly cover our feet when we pray,,, i see ppl in the mosque and even my aunty told me that a lady's feet are not allowed to be seen in prayers, offcourse i cover myself completly but my feet are seen is it not allowed in islam... but isn't it that the feet will speak that we had prayed and if it doesn't touch the the matt by us covering them then what??

2) About Zakat al Mal, My aunty said that her imman told her when you don't wear your set of gold for the whole year then you need to pay zakat al mal for it, but if you wear the gold then there is no need.. And you had sent us a hadith about Prophet mohamed (pbuh) saying to one of the Musliman women with her child who was wearing some gold bangles and Rasulalah asked the woman are you paying zakat for those bangles and she answered no,, then he told her then it'll be the bangles of Fire on the day of judgement and the lady immediately removed them and gave them to the prophet to distribute as charity to ppl. With this story is it safe to say that we have to pay for the gold even though we wear them???

3) These past 2days i have been arriving late to the masjid for the Isha with the Taraweh prayers,, and so sometimes i find they have already performed the first rakah of the isha prayer,, i know i have to join the congregation and then when he says salam i have to wakeup to finish the one i missed. But can you please explain to me in detail abou how i should join the congregation because am really confused.. what i do is say my fatha and then a surah and then they sit down for the atahiyatu after 2rakahs,, my question is do i do the same as them.. Am just really confused pleease explain how i should go about it.. because after we finish the prayer, i offer my isha prayer again because i don't want to have mis prayed it...

Answer:

Can women expose her feet in satr

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Q-1: For a lady do we need to constantly cover our feet when we pray,,, i see ppl in the mosque and even my aunty told me that a lady's feet are not allowed to be seen in prayers, offcourse i cover myself completly but my feet are seen is it not allowed in islam..

Ibn 'Abbas, Ibn 'Umar and 'Aishah report that the Prophet (saws) said, "Allah does not accept the prayer of an adult woman unless she is wearing a ‘jilbaab’ (khimar, hijab, head-cover)."

Related by Bukhari and Muslim.

The Messenger of Allah (saws) commanded and declared it obligatory for the believing women to cover herself while offering her prayers in the exact same manner she is commanded to cover herself when in the presence of non-mehram adult males.

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4092 Narrated by Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin

Asma, daughter of AbuBakr, entered upon the Messenger of Allah (saws) wearing thin clothes. The Messenger of Allah (saws) turned his attention from her and said: ‘O Asma', when a woman reaches the age of menstruation, it does not suit her that she displays her parts of body except this and this’, and he (saws) pointed to her face and hands.

Umm Salamah (the wife of the Prophet (saws)) narrated that she asked the Prophet (saws), "Can a woman pray in a long shirt and headcovering without a loincloth?" He (saws) replied "If the shirt is long and flowing and covers the top of her feet."

Related by Abu Dawud.

The guidance of the Messenger of Allah (saws) to cover everything except her face, her hands upto her wrists, and the feet upto the ankles (inclusive) of the woman….thus the prayers of a woman whose face, hands, and feet upto the ankles alone are exposed will be deemed absolutely legal and valid in Shariah.

Q-2: About Zakat al Mal, My aunty said that her imman told her when you don't wear your set of gold for the whole year then you need to pay zakat al mal for it, but if you wear the gold then there is no need.. Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 1558 Narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As

A woman came to the Messenger of Allah (saws) and she was accompanied by her daughter who wore two heavy gold bangles in her hands. He (saws) said to her: ‘Do you pay zakat on them?’ She said: ‘No.’ He (saws) then said: ‘Are you pleased that Allah may put two bangles of fire on your hands?’ Thereupon she took them off and placed them before the Prophet (saws) saying: ‘They are for Allah and His Messenger (saws) (to distribute to the poor as they will).’

Gold and jewelry are indeed considered as amongst one’s zakatable assets. If the value of total excess assets of the believing woman (or man) is above the prescribed value of ‘nisaab’, she would be liable to pay her annual zakah on her gold and jewelry, regardless of whether she wears that jewelry everyday or not.

Q-3: These past 2days i have been arriving late to the masjid for the Isha with the Taraweh prayers,, and so sometimes i find they have already performed the first rakah of the isha prayer………. Am just really confused pleease explain how i should go about it.. because after we finish the prayer, i offer my isha prayer again because i don't want to have mis prayed it...
Lets assume that one has arrived in the masjid late, whereby the congregation of the Isha prayers has already been completed and the ‘Imam’ has started the ‘taraweeh’ prayers in congregation. The person arriving late happens to join the congregation during the second ‘rakah’ of the ‘tarawih’ prayer.

The believer joining this congregation must first make intention in their heart that he/she intend to offer their obligatory ‘Isha’ prayer, join the congregation, raise their hands upto their shoulders, declare the ‘takbeer’, and follow the actions of the ‘Imam’ leading the congregation.

Because the believer only joined the congregation during the second rakah of the ‘tarawih’ prayer, the believer should complete that rakah with the congregation, and when the Imam declares the tasleem, the believer is to stand up, recite Surah Al-Fatihah and another Surah, sit down and recite the small tashahud; then offer two more rakahs with only the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, sit down and recite the big ‘tashahud’, and then make their tasleems to signal the end of their ‘Isha’ prayer.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
