Assalamo alaikum , burhaan bhai,

Indeed nothing can be more convincing than the references from Holy quran & hadith.Going by this logic i find you worthy enough to ask following question-

My family have read somewhere in a book ( which it claims to be a hadith) that prophet used to visit all the graves & pray for them. in one of the visits he asked Allah tala to the paradise for her mother but God declined his duwah and he kept on crying afterwards.

my family is really scared on this fact saying that if Allah tala is reluctent in fulfilling His messanger Duwah, then how come God will accept a common man duwah.

plz answer us in light of Quran & Hadith.

Answer:

Prophet (saws) supplication for his mother

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Abu Hurairah reported: "The Prophet (saws) visited his mother's grave and wept, and everyone there wept with him (saws). Then the Prophet (saws) said: 'I sought my Lord's permission to seek forgiveness for her, but He did not permit me. I then sought permission to visit her grave and He permitted me to visit her grave.’

Related by Muslim, Ahmad, and Abu Dawud.

It is indeed recorded in authentic hadith that the Messenger of Allah (saws) sought permission from Allah Subhanah to seek forgiveness for his deceased mother, but Allah Subhanah did not permit him to make such a supplication for his deceased mother, who had died in the state of disbelief.

Such is the enormity and heinousness of the sins of ‘shirk’ (polytheism), ‘kufr’ (disbelief) and ‘nifaaq’ (hypocrisy) in the Sight of Allah Subhanah that He has Declared that He will never ever forgive a person who dies in the state of polytheism, disbelief, and hypocrisy. He may, if He so Wills and Pleases, forgive any or all of the other sins of man, but The Lord Most Majestic has singled out these three enormous sins as absolutely unforgiveable in the Hereafter.

Allah says in the Quran: Chapter 4 Surah An-Nisa Verse 48

Shirk’ is the only sin that Allah does not forgive, and He forgives, whomsoever He pleases, sins other than this. For whosoever associates any other partner with Allah, does indeed forge a big lie and commits the most heinous sin

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 72:

Whoever commits ‘shirk’, Allah shall forbid for him Paradise, and Hell shall be his abode. And for such wrong doers there will be no one to help.

Your Question: …..my family is really scared on this fact saying that if Allah tala is reluctent in fulfilling His messanger Duwah, then how come God will accept a common man duwah.

Such is the Grace of the Lord Most Merciful that He absolutely loathes to reject any lawful supplication made unto him by His believing slaves, leave alone rejecting a supplication made unto Him by His appointed Messenger! And that is precisely why the Lord Most Gracious refused to give permission to the Messenger of Allah (saws) to make a supplication which was bound to be rejected.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 9 Surah Taubah verse 113:

113 It is not fitting for the Prophet and those who believe that they should pray for forgiveness for (deceased) pagans, even though they be of kin, after it is clear to them that they are companions of the Fire.

Each and every lawful supplication that a believer makes unto his Lord, is heard and answered by the Lord; for Allah is indeed Most Gracious unto His believing slaves.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 186:

And if My servants ask you, O Prophet, concerning Me, tell them that I am quite near to them. I hear and answer the prayer of the suppliant, when he calls on Me. So let them respond to My call and believe in Me. (Convey this to them), perhaps they may be guided aright!

  • The All Knowing, All Wise Allah knows what is good and what is bad for us; therefore, if one asks for something good, Allah will give him/her one of three things:
  • Allah will give the believer what he/she has supplicated for.
  • If what the believer is asking is not good or harmful for the believer in this world, Allah will store it for him for the world of the Hereafter.
  • If what the believer is asking is not good or harmful for the believer in this world, Allah will turn away from the believer an equivalent amount of evil.

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2257 Narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri

The Prophet (saws) said, "Any Muslim who makes a supplication containing nothing which is sinful, or which involves breaking ties of relationship, will be given for it by Allah one of three things: He will give him swift answer, or store it up for him in the next world, or turn away from him an equivalent amount of evil." Those who heard it said they would then make many supplications and he (saws) replied that Allah was more ready to answer than they were to ask.

Nu'man b. Bashir reported that the Prophet (saws), said, "Verily supplication is worship."

Narrated by Ahmad and Sunan.

Abu Hurairah reported, "The Prophet (saws) said, "Nothing is more dear to Allah than one's supplication to Him.''

Narrated by Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah.

Salman al-Farsi (r.a.) reported that the Prophet (saws), said, "Your Lord, the Blessed and the Exalted One, is Modest and Generous, and He loathes to turn away His servant empty-handed when he raises his hands to Him in supplication."

Narrated by Ahmad and Ibn Hibban.

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2248 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "There are three whose supplication is not rejected: one who has just ended a fast, a just imam, and one who has been wronged, whose supplication is raised by Allah above the clouds and for which the gates of Heaven are opened. The Lord says, 'I swear by My Might that I shall certainly help you, though it be after some time.'"

Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet (saws) said, "Your supplication will be answered if you are not impatient, and if you do not say, 'I supplicated but my supplication was not heard'."

Narrated by Malik.

In light of the above aayah and the various narrations from the Messenger of Allah (saws), it is evident that no lawful supplication which a believer makes unto their Lord Most Gracious is ever left unanswered.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
