Can a wealthy mother gives her Zakat to her daughter ?

The daughter is an widow and have no wealth, dependent on her sons.

Answer:

Is daughter eligible for zakah

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

In light of the guidance of the Quran and the Sunnah, the scholars and jurists are unanimous in their opinion that it is not permissible for parents to spend from their zakah dues on their off-spring, nor is it permissible for one’s off-spring to spend from their zakah dues on their parents.

If Allah Subhanah has blessed the parents with abundance, it is their duty to spend from their sustenance on their off-spring; and vice versa, if Allah Subhanah has blessed the off-spring with abundance, it is their duty to spend on their parents from their sustenance.

For a parent (mother or father) to spend on their own off-spring (sons or daughters) from their zakah funds would not be appropriate.

If a mother whom Allah Subhanah has blessed with abundance finds her widowed daughter needy, it is her duty to spend on her from her non-zakah funds.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
