One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

assalamu alaikum,

I have a doubt on this aspect. can u guide me what the sunnah says......

Is it good/permitted  to display in our homes  the trophy cups or prizes won on participating in competetions  in sports or other fields as a symbol to show off to anyone who visits the house about the persons achievement  in worldly life ?

Answer:

Display show trophies certificates prizes

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

If one passed an examination or a course and obtained a certificate, or one has excelled in something and received a trophy, or a cup, or a certificate, or a medal, etc….and one displays that award in one’s home for one’s own satisfaction….there is absolutely no harm.

But if one displays their certificate or their trophy in their homes only to ‘show off’ their achievements or their excellence to others, or involves himself in arrogance and pride, or displays them only to prove that he is better than others, etc.….that would obviously not be in consonance with the character of a believer who sincerely fears Allah and the Last Day. And Allah Alone Knows Best.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
