One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

According to what my sister has just asked. Just take for example you are a hairy type and wetting your hair while taking the bath will cause the hair not to dry on time and at the same time making an unpleasant smell and other damges it cause to the hair. Does that means we can still wash from the neck to toes without washing the hair.

Pls enlight more.  Allah hafiz

Answer:

Washing hair in ghusl

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 6:

6 O ye who believe! When ye prepare for prayer wash your faces and your hands (and arms) to the elbows; rub your heads (with water); and (wash) your feet to the ankles. If ye are in a state of ceremonial impurity bathe your whole body. But if ye are ill or on a journey or one of you cometh from offices of nature, or ye have been in contact with women and ye find no water, then take for yourselves clean sand or earth and rub therewith your faces and hands. Allah does not wish to place you in a difficulty but to make you clean and to complete His favor to you that ye may be grateful.

If one is in a state of ceremonial or major impurity (post sexual intercourse, menstruation, seminal ejaculation, etc.), before one can make oneself available for prayer it is absolutely obligatory that one needs to perform a ‘ghusl’ or full bath of purification whereby one thoroughly washes each and every part of their body, making sure that absolutely no part of the body (including one’s hair) is left dry.

If one is in a state of ceremonial impurity and washes oneself from one’s neck to one’s toes, but leaves the face or hair dry, one would not be considered purified from their state of ceremonial impurity….one would not be able to make themselves available for prayer unless and until they perform the ‘ghusl’ or full bath of purification.
