Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalamalaikum Brother Burhan,

I live in Kenya and do receive the emails on various topics and issues in Islam from islamhelpline. I must praise and thank you and your team for the effort you are making to propagate Islamic teachings in this way.

I would like to know whether 'Bani Israel' (known as Jews) are the beloved human beings of Allah (SWT) even today? My understanding of the Holy and Glorious Quran tells me that they aren't. Kindly clarify this misconception in my mind.

Answer:

Are jews beloved of Allah

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

May Allah Subhanah reward you with the best of this world and the Hereafter for your kind comments of encouragement for our humble efforts in the propagation of the Truth. If our humble and modest efforts have helped even one brother or sister get closer to Allah and His Deen of Truth, then we would consider ourselves indeed fortunate to have been given this opportunity by the Lord Most Merciful to serve in His Cause. We hope, beg, and pray the Merciful Lord accepts our humble and weak efforts, forgives us our shortcomings, and saves you, us, and all the believers from the torment of the Hell Fire. Ameen.

Your Question: I would like to know whether 'Bani Israel' (known as Jews) are the beloved human beings of Allah (SWT) even today?

Allah Subhanah created all human beings from one set of parents (Hadrat Adam (a.s.) and Hawwa), and Allah Subhanah created Hadrat Adam (a.s.) from dust. Thus all human beings are the creation of Allah Subhanah, and no race or people were, are, or become the beloved of the Lord Most Gracious on the mere basis of race, or language, or color, etc…or merely because one chooses to call themselves Jews, or Christians, or Muslims!

All human beings are absolutely equal in the Sight of Allah Subhanah; the most beloved and the most honored amongst them being the one who has the most ‘taqwa’ (piety, God-consciousness, fear of Allah, etc.)

Allah says in the Holy Quran: Chapter 49 Surah Hujurat verse 13:

O mankind, We created you from one man and one woman, and then divided you into nations and tribes so that you may recognize one another. Indeed, the most honorable amongst you in the Sight of Allah is he who is the most pious of you. Surely Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

This is precisely what the Messenger of Allah (saws) said during his famous sermon of ‘Hajj at-ul-Wida’ (Farewell Hajj): ‘…….All of mankind are from Adam and Hawwa. No Arab has any superiority over a non-Arab, nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; a white has no superiority over a black, nor a black has any superiority over a white, except by ‘taqwa’ (piety)……’

Thus to say, or believe, or declare, or claim that a specific race was or is the ‘most beloved’ of Allah Subhanah merely on the basis of race or region or color or language, etc. is absolutely inaccurate.

What Allah Subahnah did do with the ‘Children of Israel’ (Jews and Christians) and to the nations before them and also to a nation after them is ‘favor’ that nation or people with the appointment of a Prophet or Prophets amongst them and thus send His Divine Revelations to them.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 45 Surah Jathiyah verse 16:

16 We did aforetime grant to the Children of Israel, the (Divine) Book, the power of command, and Prophethood; We gave them for sustenance things good and pure; and We favored them above the nations.

If a nation or people whom Allah Subhanah has favored above all the nations with the appointment of Prophethood amongst them, fulfill their covenant with Him….they shall have their due reward with their Lord; but if they reject or abuse or breach the covenant they make with Allah, upon them will rest the curse of Allah Subhanah in this world and the Hereafter.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisaa verses 153-156:

153 The people of the Book (Jews and Christians) ask thee (O Prophet Mohamed (saws)) to cause a ‘Book’ to descend to them from heaven: indeed they asked Moses for an even greater (miracle) for they said: "Show us Allah in public" but they were dazed for their presumption with thunder and lightning. Yet they worshipped the calf even after clear Signs had come to them; even so We forgave them; and gave Moses manifest proofs of authority.

154 And for their Covenant We raised over them (the towering height) of Mount (Sinai); and (on another occasion) We said: "Enter the gate with humility"; and (once again) We Commanded them: "Transgress not in the matter of the Sabbath." And We took from them a solemn Covenant.

155 (They have incurred Divine Displeasure): in that they broke their Covenant: that they rejected the Signs of Allah; that they slew the Messengers in defiance of right; that they said "Our hearts are the wrappings (which preserve Allah's Word; we need no more)"; nay Allah hath set the seal on their hearts for their blasphemy, and little is it they believe.

156 That they rejected faith: that they uttered against Mary a grave false charge!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verses 13-16:

13 But because of their (the Bani Israel’s constant) breach of their Covenant We cursed them and made their hearts grow hard: they change the Words from their (right) places and forget a good part of the Message that was sent them nor wilt thou cease to find them barring a few ever bent on (new) deceits: but forgive them and overlook (their misdeeds): for Allah loveth those who are kind.

14 From those who call themselves Christians We did take a Covenant but they (too) forgot a good part of the Message that was sent them: so We estranged them with enmity and hatred between the one and the other to the Day of Judgment. And soon will Allah show them what it is they have done.

15 O People of the Book! There hath come to you Our Messenger (Prophet Mohamed (saws)) revealing to you much that ye used to hide in the Book and passing over much (that is now unnecessary): There hath come to you from Allah a (new) Light and a Perspicuous Book.

16 Wherewith Allah guideth all who seek His good pleasure to ways of peace and safety, and leadeth them out of darkness by His Will unto the Light; and guideth them to a Path that is Straight.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 61:

They (the Jews) were covered with humiliation and misery; they drew on themselves the Wrath of Allah. This because they went on rejecting the Signs of Allah and slaying His messengers without just cause. This because they rebelled and went on transgressing!

After being favored by Allah Subhanah through the continuous appointment of Prophet after Prophet for almost 2,000 years….the Children of Israel constantly abused and breached the covenant they made with their Lord …. and the Lord Most Gracious favored another nation with the appointment of His Last and Final Prophet (Mohamed (saws)) and His Last and Final Revelation (The Glorious Quran).

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Surah Hajj verses 77-78:

77 O ye who believe! Bow down, prostrate yourselves, and adore your Lord; and do good; that ye may prosper.

78 And strive in His Cause as ye ought to strive (with sincerity and under discipline): He has chosen you and has imposed no difficulties on you in religion; it is the cult of your father Abraham. It is He Who has named you Muslims both before and in this (Quran); that the Messenger (Prophet Mohamed (saws)) may be a witness for you, and ye be witnesses for mankind! So establish regular prayer, give regular charity, and hold fast to Allah! He is your Protector; The Best to protect and The Best to help!

If the Muslim ‘Ummah’ fulfills their covenant they have made with their Lord, those amongst them who sincerely strive in His Cause will receive their due and full reward with their Lord…..but if this Ummah too breaks and breaches their covenant, as is the Way or Sunnah of Allah, Divine Displeasure and the Curse of Allah Subhanah would not be far from them!

Your Question (again): I would like to know whether 'Bani Israel' (known as Jews) are the beloved human beings of Allah (SWT) even today?

It is indeed unfortunate that whenever the Lord Most Gracious favored a nation above all nations and bestowed upon them His Book and His Prophet/s….instead of being grateful for the immense favor of their Lord and striving their utmost to fulfilling their covenant with Him, the ignorant amongst them start to claim that the very reason their nation was chosen and favored by the Lord was because they had become ‘favorites’ and the ‘most beloveds’ of the Lord Most Majestic…..and not satisfied to blaspheme that they are the ‘most beloved’ of the Lord Most Majestic, in their arrogance and in their ignorance, they extend their ridiculous claim by declaring that they alone will have access and entry into the Eternal Gardens of Paradise in the Hereafter!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 18:

18 (Both) the Jews and the Christians say: "We are sons of Allah and His beloved." Say: "Why then doth He punish you for your sins? Nay! Ye are but men of the men He hath created: He forgives whom He Pleases and He punishes whom He Pleases: and to Allah (Alone) belong the Dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between: and unto Him is the final goal (of all)."

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verses 111-112:

111 And they say: "None shall enter Paradise unless he be a Jew or a Christian." Those are their (vain) desires. Say: "Produce your proof if ye are truthful."

112 Nay! Whoever submits his whole self to Allah and is a doer of good he will get his (due) reward with his Lord; on such shall be no fear nor shall they grieve!

It is indeed a grave misfortune that this very concept of being Allah’s ‘beloved’ and gaining immunity from the Hell Fire merely because one claims to belong to a particular nation or ‘Ummah’ has somehow crept even into the Muslim Ummah…..when nothing could be further than the Truth!

Only and only those who submit themselves unto their Lord Creator, believe, and do righteous good deeds in accordance with the Guidance Revealed by Allah will be kept safe from the eternal torment of the Hell Fire.

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
