Seven levels of paradise.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalamu alaykum!

I have a question about Jannah. I heard there are seven levels of Jannah. Are we given information as to what kind of people enter each level?

For example I read that In the 7th level are the people that were really pious on earth and did very good deeds and obeyed allah swt the most. And then I heard that in the lowest level are the muslims that were not so good. But what types of people are in the second, third, fourth, fifth, six levels?

Answer:

Seven levels of paradise

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 17 Surah Israa verse 21:

21 See how We have bestowed more on some than on others (in this world); but verily the Hereafter is more in rank and gradation, and more in excellence.

In light of the guidance of the Glorious Quran and the Sunnah, the levels in Paradise are not restricted to seven (or any other number for that matter!). In light of the above quoted verse of Surah Israa, it would be safe to assume that there are innumerable levels of rank and gradation in the Realms of Paradise; and each fortunate dweller of Paradise will be allotted their due rank and gradation according to the level of their belief and deeds, and above all, from the Mercy and Grace of their Lord Most Gracious.

Such are the innumerable grades, ranks and levels in Paradise that the Messenger of Allah (saws) declared in one narration that a hundred of them are reserved only for the ‘mujahideen’ who fight Allah’s Cause!

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 4.48 Narrated by Abu Huraira

The Prophet said, "Whoever believes in Allah and His Messenger (saws), offers prayer perfectly and fasts the month of Ramadan, will rightfully be granted Paradise by Allah, no matter whether he fights in Allah's Cause or remains in the land where he is born." The people asked, "O Allah's Messenger (saws)! Shall we acquaint the people with this good news?" He (saws) replied: "Paradise has one-hundred grades which Allah has reserved (only) for the ‘mujahidin’ who fight in His Cause, and the distance between each of two grades is like the distance between the heaven and the earth. So, when you ask Allah (for something), ask for ‘Al-Firdaus’ which is the best and highest part of Paradise." (i.e., The sub-narrator added, "The Prophet (saws) also said, 'Above it (i.e. ‘Al-Firdaus’) is the Throne of the Beneficent (i.e. Allah), and from it originate the rivers of Paradise.")

Of all the grades and levels of Paradise, the Messenger of Allah (saws) declared the absolute highest rank and level is called the ‘Al-Firdaus’…..

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 5.318 Narrated by Anas

Haritha was martyred on the day (of the battle) of Badr, and he was a young boy then. His mother came to the Prophet (saws) and said, "O Allah's Messenger (saws)! You know how dear Haritha is to me. If he is in Paradise, I shall remain patient, and hope for reward from Allah, but if it is not so, then you shall see what I do?" He (saws) replied "May Allah be merciful to you! Have you lost your senses? Do you think there is only one Paradise? There are many Paradises and your son is in the (most superior) Paradise of all, the ‘Al-Firdaus’."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.572 Narrated by Anas

The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: ‘…….A forenoon journey or an afternoon journey in Allah's Cause is better than the whole world and whatever is in it; and a place equal to an arrow bow of anyone of you, or a place equal to a foot in (the lowest level of) Paradise is better than the whole world and whatever is in it; and if one of the women of Paradise looked at the earth, she would fill the whole space between them (the earth and the heavens) with light, and would fill whatever is in between them, with perfume, and the veil of her face is better than the whole world and whatever is in it."

Sahih Muslim Hadith 6783 Narrated by Sahl ibn Sa'd as-Sa'idi

I was in the company of Allah's Messenger (saws) when he (saws) gave a description of Paradise, and then Allah's Messenger (saws) concluded with these words: ‘There would be bounties in Paradise which no eye has ever seen, no ear has ever heard and no human heart has even ever perceived!’ He (saws) then recited this verse of the Glorious Quran: (Surah As-Sajdah 32-16:17)

16 Their limbs do forsake their beds of sleep the while they call on their Lord in fear and in hope: and they spend (in charity) out of the sustenance which We have bestowed on them.

17 Now no person knows what delights of the eye are kept hidden (in reserve) for them as a reward for their (good) deeds.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
