Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

I`m working at company that owns hotels and i`m working with them as an owner representative engineer at new under construction hotel as we all know that will be alcohol served at the hotel what about my salary is it halal or haram?

Answer:

Working to build hotel alcohol

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 2 (part):

…..Help ye one another in righteousness and piety, but help ye not one another in sin and rancor: fear Allah: for Allah is strict in punishment.

If one is absolutely convinced that the place one is helping to design or construct will be used for dealing in what has clearly been declared as ‘haraam’ by Allah and His Messenger (saws), then it would be best, purest, and akin to piety and righteousness for the believer who sincerely fears Allah and the Last Day to abstain from taking any part in facilitating such an operation. If one facilitates or helps build the premises, knowing that the premises one is helping construct will be used to deal in a product or operation which has been declared ‘haraam’ by Allah and His Messenger (saws), he indeed will share an appropriate portion and burden of the sin according to the level of his participation.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
