Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear Sir, I am a muslim girl, but you make me feel ashamed of this by repeating on and on that a woman is a degree lower than a man. First of all, women can do everything that men can do, and above all they can carry and give a birth to a child unlike men. And second, why should I believe in everything said by you or written in the Quran, when you and the writer of the last are men, and actually we can`t be 100% sure what was really said by God, as it was written by a a human being. And third, the Quran was actual and essential for the time of its writing, but now humankind and world has changed, as well as the role of women in it, so we should reconsider what is written in it.

Answer:

Is the Quran for all times and ages?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His  forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Statement: I am a muslim girl, but you make me feel ashamed of this by repeating on and on that a woman is a degree lower than a man.

Allah Subhanah, the Creator of humans, the heavens and the earth, and everything that exists is the One Who created man; and from this man created his mate; and He is the One Who created their nature. To live as a unit in a family in peace, harmony and tranquility; The All Knowing, All Wise, Allah Subhanah has Decreed the duties and responsibilities of the man and the woman according to the nature He created for them.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 30 Surah Rum verse 21: And of Allah’s Sign is that He has created for you wives from your own species, so that you may find peace with them, and (Allah has) created love and mercy between you. Surely in this there are many Signs for those who reflect.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 228: Divorced women shall wait concerning themselves for three monthly periods; nor is it lawful for them to hide what Allah hath created in their wombs if they have faith in Allah and the Last Day. And their husbands have the better right to take them back in that period if they wish for reconciliation. And women shall have rights similar to the rights against them according to what is equitable; but men have a degree (of advantage) over them; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisaa verse 34:Men are the managers of the affairs of women because Allah has made the one superior to the other, and because men spend of their wealth on women. Virtuous women are , therefore, obedient (to their husbands); and they guard in his absence what Allah would have them guard (their honor, their property, etc.)

The degree or advantage is only for the test of this worldly life; in the Hereafter, there will be absolutely no difference or advantage by gender. The decision of Allah Subhanah on who deserves Paradise and who deserves Hell Fire will not be made on the gender of the person; but rather on their deeds! On that Inevitable Day, the righteous, whether they be male or female, will be honored according to their deeds; and the sinful, whether they be male or female, will be disgraced according to their deeds! No one will be dealt with unjustly in the least.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale Imraan verse 195: And their Lord hath accepted of them and answered them: "Never will I suffer to be lost the work of any of you, be he male or female: ye are members one of another; those who have left their homes or been driven out therefrom, or suffered harm in My cause, or fought, or been slain, verily I will blot out from them their iniquities and admit them into gardens with rivers flowing beneath; a reward from the presence of Allah, and from His presence is the best of rewards."

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisaa verse 124:If any do deeds of righteousness, be they male or female, and have faith they will enter heaven and not the least injustice will be done to them.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 33 Surah Ahzaab verse 35: For Muslim men and women, for believing men and women, for devout men and women, for true men and women, for men and women who are patient and constant, for men and women who humble themselves, for men and women who give in charity, for men and women who fast, for men and women who guard their chastity, and for men and women who engage much in Allah's praise; for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and a great reward.

Your Statement: First of all, women can do everything that men can do, and above all they can carry and give a birth to a child unlike men.

There are many things that a woman can do that men can do; in fact there are many things which woman can do better than men! Contrary to popular belief, that men and women are created equal; Islam guides the believers that men and women are not equal, rather they are balanced! Each has been given their own set of responsibilities and duties according to its nature.

Indeed, Allah Subhanah has honored the woman to bear and give birth; and no man can fulfill this huge and noble duty and responsibility that Allah Subhanah has honored upon the woman! Similarly, the women cannot get pregnant from thin-air, but rather Allah Subhanah has blessed man to mate with a woman; and only with this combination can a birth take place! One is incomplete without the other!!!

There is absolutely no doubt that the woman in her role as a mother, is far far superior to the father; as is evident from these words of wisdom from Allah and His Messenger (saws).

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 46 Surah Ahqaaf verse 15:We have enjoined man to treat his parents with kindness. His mother bore him with pain and she gave him birth with pain.

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 5120 Narrated by Mu'awiyah ibn Hayadah

I said: “O Messenger of Allah (saws)! To whom should I show kindness?” He (saws) replied: “Your mother!” I asked, “Who next?” He (saws) replied: “Your mother!” , I asked, “Who next?” He (saws) replied: “Your mother!, and then comes your father, and then your relatives in order of relationship.”

Your Question: And second, why should I believe in everything said by you or written in the Quran, when you and the writer of the last are men, and actually we can`t be 100% sure what was really said by God, as it was written by a a human being.

The words of the Glorious Quran are not the words of man; but these are the exact verbatim words of the Merciful Creator, Who created everything in existence! It is indeed true that the words were documented by men in a book form; but the One Who Dictated these noble words was none other than Allah Subhanah!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 17 Surah Isra verse 88:Declare this! ‘Even if human beings and the jinns should co-operate with one another to bring forth a book like the Quran, they would never be able to bring anything like it, even though they all helped one another!”

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 23-24:And if you be in doubt whether the Book We have sent down to Our Servant is from Us or not, then produce, at least, one surah like this. You may call all your associates to assist you and avail yourselves of the help of any, other than Allah. If you are genuine in your doubt, do this! But if you do not do this, and you can never do this, then fear the Fire which has been prepared for the disbelievers, and which shall have men and stones for fuel.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam verse 157-158:

Now that a clear proof, a Guidance and Blessing, has come to you from your Lord, who can be more unjust than the one who treats Our Revelations as false and turns away from them? We will inflict the severest torment on those who turn away from Our Revelations because of their aversion. Do the people now await that the angels should come down before them? Or that your Lord may Himself come down? Or that the manifest Signs of your Lord should appear?

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 18 Surah Kahf verse 29:Proclaim, “This (Quran) is the Truth from your Lord: now whosoever wills may accept it, and whosoever wills may reject it.” (As for those who reject it) We have prepared for such workers of iniquity a fire whose flames have encircled them. There, if they ask for water , they will be given a drink like the dregs of oil, which will burn their mouths! What an evil drink, and what an evil abode!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam verse 7:(O Prophet) even if We had sent down to you a Book written on paper, and even if they had touched it with their own hands, the disbelievers would have said, “This is nothing but manifest sorcery!”.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 15 Surah Al Hijr verse 9:It is We (Allah), Who has sent down this Quran, and We will assuredly guard it against corruption.

Your Statement: And third, the Quran was actual and essential for the time of its writing, but now humankind and world has changed, as well as the role of women in it, so we should reconsider what is written in it.

The Glorious Quran is as relevant today as it was 1400+ years ago when it was being revealed! The nature of human being has not changed, his likes and dislikes has not changed, his quest for guidance have not changed, his needs have not changed, the manifestations of good and evil have not changed and the tactics of Shaitaan have not changed!

Just because man builds flyovers, and skyscrapers, and rockets and nuclear stations…his nature does not change!

In fact, even the questions of the Challengers of the timelessness of the Glorious Quran have not changed!!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 10 Surah Yunus verse 15:When Our clear Revelations are recited to them, those who do not expect to meet Us, say: “Bring another Quran in its stead, or make some amendment in it.” Say, “It is not for me to make any alteration in it of my own accord. I follow only what is revealed to me. Indeed, if I disobey my Lord, I fear the chastisement of a Dreadful Day.”

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 25 Surah Furqaan verses 4-6:

4 But the disbelievers say: "Naught is this (Quran) but a lie which he has forged and others have helped him at it." In truth it is they who have put forward an iniquity and a falsehood.

5 And they say: "Tales of the ancients which he has caused to be written: and they are dictated before him morning and evening."

6 Say: "The (Qur'an) was sent down by Him, Who knows the Mystery (that is) in the heavens and the earth: verily He is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful."

May Allah Subhanah guide you and us to the Straight Path of Islam.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
