One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear Burhan Bhai,

Assalama Alaikum

We sold our house & won`t be moving to our new home until another month. I need your assistance. My question to you is that, if it`s ok to stay at our friend`s house who is hindu. And also if it`s acceptable if we pray over there. Need your help. Please guide us.

Thanks

Answer:

Stay at hindu house

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

There is absolutely no restriction in Shariah which prohibits a believer from visiting or staying in a house whose residents are pagans, or vice versa.

The Prophet (saws) said in an authentic narration that: “Allah has made the whole earth a “masjid” for the believers, so pray wherever it is easy or convenient for you.”

The Lord Most Merciful in His infinite Mercy has made the whole earth a ‘masjid’ for the believers; thus they may pray wherever it is easy for them. There is absolutely no harm in offering your prayers in your hindu friend’s house.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
