Assala muallaykum. I wanted to know the meaning of the name "Wasin" or "Waseen". Can you please tell me. Is it a muslim name?

Answer:

Meaning of name Waseen

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The term ‘Waseen’ if spelt using the Arabic alphabet ‘Saad’ means a small piece of cloth; and if spelt using the alphabet ‘Seen’ means one who is constantly sleepy.

Your Question: Can you please tell me. Is it a muslim name?

Beloved brother, contrary to popular belief the truth of the matter is that there is no such thing as a ‘muslim’ name!! Most of the noble companions of the Prophet (saws) who reverted from disbelief to Islam kept their maiden names which were assigned to them by their parents….the only names which the Prophet (saws) advised to be changed were those which had a connotation of disbelief or shirk; or those names which had an inherently evil meaning.

Although there are many good names which one may keep from the rich and vast history of Islam, any name which does not connote shirk or disbelief, or one which does not inherently have an evil meaning is absolutely acceptable in Islam.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
