I would like to know about the two malaks who take down all the good things and bad things we do

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Asalamualaikkum,
I would like to know about the two malaks who take down all the good things and bad things we do.Is it true that they are placed near our left and right shoulder? Is that why we turn our face towards our shoulders and say salaam after our salaat? If so, please tell me their names.
thankyou,
May Allah bless us

Answer:

Names of angels on right & left

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: I would like to know about the two malaks who take down all the good things and bad things we do.Is it true that they are placed near our left and right shoulder?

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 50 Surah Qaaf verses 17-18:

17 Behold two (Angels) appointed to learn (his doings and note them), one sitting on the right and one on the left.

18 Not a word does he utter but there is a sentinel (Angel) by him ready (to note it).

Allah Subhanah guides in His Glorious Quran that He has appointed two Angels for each human being to record all that they do; one Angel to the right and the other to the left.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 13 Surah Raad verses 10-11:

10 It is the same (to Him) whether any of you conceal his speech or declare it openly; whether he lie hid by night or walk freely by day.

11 For each (person) there are (Angels) in succession before and behind him: they guard him by command of Allah.

The Lord Most High also guides that Angels are also appointed by Allah who are placed in-front and behind the human beings, who guard the human by the Command of Allah.

Your Question: Is that why we turn our face towards our shoulders and say salaam after our salaat?

The rite of turning the face towards the right and then the left and declaring the salutations of peace and Mercy at the end of the prayer is meant for both, the Angels and the believers when in one’s congregational prayers, and to the Angels when one offers the prayer alone.

Your Question: If so, please tell me their names.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 82 Surah Infitaar verses 10-12:

10 But verily over you (are appointed Angels) to protect you

11 Kind and honorable, writing down (your deeds): {Kiramen Kaatebeen}

12 They know all that ye do.

Although Allah and His Messenger (saws) have not specified the exact names of the Angels who are appointed by Allah Subhanah to guard and to record the human brings, Allah Subhanah does mention a ‘generic’ name for these Angels in His Glorious Quran: ‘Kiramen Kaatebeen’ (Kind and Honorable Recorders or Writers).

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
