Answer:

Why circumcision needed?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: which verse of holy Quran orders about circumcision?

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 7.777 Narrated by Abu Huraira

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "Five practices are characteristics of the ‘Fitra’ (nature): shaving the pubic region, removing the hair under the arms, clipping the nails, and circumcision and cutting the moustaches short (for men)."

The guidance to perform a circumcision is not a Command of the Quran, but rather a guidance from the authentic and established tradition or Sunnah of the Last Messenger of Allah (saws). The circumcision, as stated by the Messenger of Allah (saws) is a characteristic of ‘fitrah’ or nature, and a Sunnah of not only Prophet Mohamed (saws) but also the Sunnah of the friend of Allah and the father of the Prophets, Prophet Ibraheem (a.s.). Circumcision is not compulsory or obligatory in Islam, but rather it is a Sunnah or voluntary act

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 95 Surah At-Teen verse 4: We have indeed created man in the best of molds

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 67 Surah Mulk verses 3-4:

3 He Who created the seven heavens one above another; no want of proportion wilt thou see in the Creation of (Allah) Most Gracious. So turn thy vision again! Seest thou any flaw (in Allah’s creation)?

4 Again turn thy vision a second time! (Thy) vision will come back to thee dull and discomfited, in a state worn out!

The Lord Creator is indeed the All-Knowing, All-Wise, and everything He Does and Creates is based on His Perfect and Absolute Wisdom. No want of proportion or flaw can one ever find in any of the Works of Allah Subhanah, for He is far Exalted and Free from making any mistake or error. Such is the level of Absolute Perfection and Supreme Flawlessness in everything that the Lord Most High Does and Creates.

When one wonders why every child is not born circumcised, one may similarly wonder why every child is not born with the appropriate proportion of hair, or the appropriate length of nails, etc.?

Modern science has today indeed proved that it is the want of ‘nature’ (fitrah) that the nails need to grow out of the body as particular unwanted chemicals are extracted through the nails. Similarly the growth of hair at the appropriate ages and places protect and prevent the body from harm emancipating from the inevitable growth of bacteria and germs.

It may be that the extra skin on the male’s sexual organ, which is removed by circumcision after birth, has a role to play in developing or protecting the male organ during the stage of the development of the child in the mother’s womb; and if modern science or knowledge has not yet deciphered the role and importance of that extra skin during the period when the child is being formed, it may in time find out the necessity of this skin when their knowledge increases.

The growth and removal of certain body hairs, the growth and clipping of the nails, or the growth and removal of the extra skin by circumcision are not some flaws in creation, or something which (I seek refuge in Allah from saying this:) the Lord Most High Most Wise forgot; but are things which are needed by man at particular stages for his own good; and Islam accordingly guided man to remove these growths proportionately when the role they had to fulfill are satisfied.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
