Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalamwalekum,
Could you please tell whether there is an angel or king of hell named Malek in our holly book, or in others? As far as i know we have to call our children with names that have nice meanings.

thank you too much.

Answer:

Angel Malik

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: Could you please tell whether there is an angel or king of hell named Malek in our holly book, or in others?

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 43 Surah Zukhruf verses 74-77:

74 The sinners will be in the Punishment of Hell to dwell therein (for aye):

75 Nowise will the (punishment) be lightened for them and in despair will they be there overwhelmed!

76 Nowise shall We be unjust to them: but it is they who have been unjust themselves.

77 They (the dwellers of Hell) will cry: "O Malik! Would that thy Lord put and end to us!" He (Angel Malik) will say "Nay; but ye shall abide!"

Allah Subhanah relates in the above Verse of the Glorious Quran that the name of the Guardian Angel of the Gates of Hell Fire is Angel Malik. The torture of Hell will be so overwhelming and so overbearing, that after years of unrepeated calling and invoking the Lord Most Just and getting no reply, in their desperation the dwellers of Hell will call upon the Angel that Guards the Gates of Hell Fire and plead and beg him to ask the Lord Most Majestic to put an end their suffering by giving them death! It is reported in authentic tradition that this Guardian Angel of Hell Fire, Angel Malik is one of few words and after years (one narration says a 1,000 years and another states 50,000 years!) of being repeatedly called upon to plead on their behalf, Angel Malik replies to them: ‘Nay! But ye shall abide!’

Your Question: As far as i know we have to call our children with names that have nice meanings.
Indeed it is the right of a new born child in Islam that his parents or guardians assign him a good and well-meaning name by which he will be recognized.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
