Answer:

Is surah Fateha part of the Quran

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chatper 15 Surah Hijr verse 87:

87      And We have bestowed upon thee the Seven Oft-Repeated (Verses, ie. Surah Al-Fatihah) and the Grand Qur'an.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 6.528         Narrated by Abu Said Al Mualla

While I was praying, the Prophet (saws) called me but I did not respond to his call. Later I said, "O Allah's Messenger (saws)! I was praying."  He (saws) said, "Didn't Allah say: 'O you who believe! Give your response to Allah (by obeying Him) and to His Messenger when he calls you'?"   (8.24)

He (saws) then said, "Shall I not teach you the most superior Surah in the Quran?" He said, "(It is),'Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. ' (i.e., Surat Al-Fatiha) which consists of Seven Oft-Repeated Verses of the Magnificent Qur'an which was given to me."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 6.227         Narrated by Abu Huraira

Allah's Messenger said, "The Um (substance) of the Quran is the Seven Oft-repeated Verses and is the Great Quran (i.e. Surat-al-Fatiha)."

In light of the above absolutely clear guidance of Allah and His Messenger (saws), Surah Al-Fatihah is indeed an absolutely integral part of the Glorious Quran; so much so, that the Messenger of Allah (saws) termed it the Most Superior Surah and the ‘Umm’ (literally ‘mother’ and colloquially ‘the main Substance’) of the Holy Quran!

Some people argue that the Surah Al-Fatihah, although a Revelation from Allah is not part of the Glorious Quran, and their only evidence is the term ‘and’ used by Allah Subhanah in the same quoted verse!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chatper 15 Surah Hijr verse 87:

87      And We have bestowed upon thee the Seven Oft-Repeated (Verses, ie. Surah Al-Fatihah) and the Grand Qur'an.

The evidence of the term ‘and’ used in the above Verse used by the people who claim that the Surah al-Fatihah is not part of the Quran is absolutely and utterly weak and unfounded.  Allah Subhanah is our witness, no man who ever walked on this planet earth understood and implemented the tenets and commands of the Quran better than the blessed self of the Noble Messenger of Allah, Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (saws), and in various traditions he (saws) has declared the Surah al-Fatihah an integral part of the Quran.

The wisdom behind the usage of the term ‘and’ in the above quoted Verse of Surah Hijr is not to make Surah al-Fatihah separate from the Glorious Quran, but rather only to show the superiority, magnificence, and preference of this ‘Oft-Repeated Surah’ in comparison to all the other Surahs of the Glorious Quran!

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
