Answer:

What is islam- Non Muslim Questions

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Q-1: What does Islam mean?

The literal meaning of the Arabic term Islam means (a way to attain peace through) the total and absolute submission of one’s will to the Will of their Lord.

Q-2: Why Muslim women wears Hijab ?

The women who have accepted Islam are commanded by their Lord and Creator to veil their beauty and finery from every non blood-related adult males of the society; so that she is recognized as a righteous women who lives her life in total submission to her Lord and Creator, and to save herself from being harassed or molested.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 33 Surah Ahzaab verse 59:

O Prophet, enjoin your wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast their outer garments over their persons. It is expected that they will thus be recognized, and not molested. Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Allah enjoins the believing women to cover herself when not in the company of her (mehram) relatives, so that she may be recognized as a believer. Her chaste and modest clothing is a sign to the other people that she is different from the other women in society, and is her certificate that she is one who sincerely believes in Allah and the Last Day and wishes to live her life in total and absolute submission of His Commandments.

The One Who Created, is the One Who bestowed each in His creation its nature, and He best recognizes the nature of His creation. The believing woman is commanded not to display her beauty to men other than her (mehram) relatives, so that the illegal emotions of society may be curtailed; which will result in a God-fearing and pious society for all. Allah has commanded both the believing men and women to also lower their gazes and guard their modesty, as that is indeed purer for them and for the society as a whole.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 24 Surah Noor verses 30-31:

30 Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.

31 And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands their fathers their husbands' fathers their sons their husbands' sons their brothers or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons or their women or the slaves whom their right hands possess or male servants free of physical needs or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah that ye may attain Bliss.

It should be an honor for any woman, who sincerely believes in Allah and the Last Day, to conform to this uniform that Allah has prescribed for her.

Q-3: Why there are some Muslim Girls not wearing Hijab ?

When one who, of one’s own free will and choice, accepts Islam as their way of life they are bound to live their lives in absolute and total obedience to their Lord and Creator. The women who have solemnly pledged their obedience and submission to their Lord but do not wear the ‘hijaab’ are in direct transgression and disobedience of a clear Command of their Lord.

To ask why some believing women do not wear the hijab is like asking someone why some drivers intentionally speed in a 60mph speed zone? These people know the law and intentionally choose to disobey or break it; thus bringing a penalty upon themselves when they are caught by the authorities.

Q-4: Why a man can Merry 4 women in Islam ?

(Please note that this is a regular question asked in Islam, and I have taken the complete answer from a great scholar and brother whom I love and respect for his love and knowledge of Islam, Dr. Zakir Naik of Islamic Research Foundation, India.)

1. POLYGAMY

Question:

Why is a man allowed to have more than one wife in Islam? i.e. why is polygamy allowed in Islam?

Answer:

Definition of Polygamy
Polygamy means a system of marriage whereby one person has more than one spouse. Polygamy can be of two types. One is polygamy where a man marries more than one woman, and the other is polyandry, where a woman marries more than one man. In Islam, limited polygamyy is permitted; whereas polyandry is completely prohibited.

Now coming to the original question, why is a man allowed to have more than one wife?

Q-5: What is the reason for fasting one month ?

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verses 183-185:

183 O ye who believe! fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you that ye may (learn) self-restraint.

184 (Fasting) for a fixed number of days; but if any of you is ill or on a journey the prescribed number (should be made up) from days later. For those who can do it (with hardship) is a ransom the feeding of one that is indigent. But he that will give more of his own free will it is better for him and it is better for you that ye fast if ye only knew.

185 Ramadan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an as a guide to mankind also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (between right and wrong). So everyone of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting but if anyone is ill or on a journey the prescribed period (should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you He does not want to put you to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful.

To perform prayer fives times a day, to fast the whole month of Ramadan, to pay an annual poor-tax of 2.5% of one’s nett worth, and to visit the Sacred Mosque in Makkah at least once in one’s lifetime to perform the Hajj pilgrimage are absolutely obligatory upon every person who, of his own free will and choice, has pledged submission of his will to the Will of his Lord and Creator.

These above four acts are, to use a management term ‘key performance indicators’ or (KPI), to signify that the person is indeed striving to fulfill the pledge of submission he made to his Lord and Creator in exchange for His Mercy and Forgiveness. It is expected that a person who strives to fulfill these four key indicators will develop absolute obedience to the other commands of his Lord and Creator.

Q-6: Tell me 5 main points if someone wants to be a Muslim ?

There is only one thing one needs to do to be recognized as a legal muslim in the sight of the law and the believers; and that is, without any force or coercion from anyone and of one’s own free choice and will, to declare that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah Alone and that Mohamed (saws) is Allah’s slave-servant and His Last and Final Messenger.

The moment a person declares his belief in Allah and His Last Messenger (saws), he will be recognized as a ‘muslim’ in the sight of Islamic Law; and every single right that is due to a believer will be accorded to him in full.

But to be recognized as a ‘true’ believer in the sight of Allah Subhanah and to attain His Mercy and Rewards in the Hereafter, in addition of one’s declaration of faith in Allah and His Last Messenger (saws), one would have to fulfill the following four obligatory requirements:

1.      Pray the five obligatory prayers at its appointed times of the day and night.

2.      Fast the whole month of Ramadan

3.      Pay the annual poor-tax of 2.5% of ones total nett worth

4.      and, once in his life time visit the Holy Mosque in Makkah to peform the Hajj pilgrimage.

The Messenger of Allah (saws) said "Islam is built upon [the following] five pillars: testifying that there is no God except Allah and that Muhammad (saws) is His Messenger, the establishment of the prayer, the giving of zakah, the fast of Ramadan, and the pilgrimage to Makkah."

Talhah ibn 'Ubaidullah narrated that a bedouin (desert Arab) with unkempt hair came to the Messenger of Allah (saws) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (saws), inform me of what Allah has made obligatory on me as regards praying." He said, "Five prayers, unless you do others voluntarily." He asked the Prophet (saws) to inform him about fasting, and he said, "The fast of Ramadan, unless you do others voluntarily." Then he asked him about charity...and the Messenger of Allah informed him of the Islamic legislations. The bedouin then said, "By the One who has honored you, I shall not voluntarily add anything to it, nor shall I be deficient in what Allah has ordered me to do." The Messenger of Allah (saws) then said, "He will enter Paradise if he is truthful (to what he said)."
