Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear Burhan:

Asalaam-u-Alaikum.

The following questions are very much concerning and I hope you would put some light on them:

Dajjall, Yajooj, Majooj, Mahdi, Al-Daabah, Jinn,

Iblis, Shaitaan, Al-Sayyadd and Imaam-us-Zamaan;

Can you differentiate them? Who are these and what are their characteristics and basis in Islam?

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Difference between Dajjal,Yajooj,Maajooj, Al-Daabah

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Ad-Daabah literally means a ‘beast’.

When used in the Islamic terminology, Ad-Daabah is the Beast that Allah Subhanah will send to earth near the end of time, as a trial for the people who do not believe in Allah Subhanah and His Signs. The Beast will be an animal who will talk to man, and will be sent as a trial unto mankind before the Day of Judgement.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 27 Surah Namal verse 82: And when the Word is fulfilled against them (the unjust), We shall produce from the earth a Beast to (face) them: he will speak to them for that mankind did not believe with assurance in our Signs.

Sahih Muslim Hadith 6931 Narrated by Hudhayfah ibn Usayd Ghifari

Allah's Apostle (saws) came to us all of a sudden as we were (busy in a discussion) He said: ‘What do you discuss about?’ (the Companions) said: ‘We are discussing about the Last Hour.’ Thereupon he said: ‘It will not come until you see ten signs before and (in this connection) he made a mention of the smoke, Dajjal, the Beast, the rising of the sun from the west, the descent of Jesus son of Mary (Allah be pleased with him), The Gog and Magog, and landslides in three places, one in the east, one in the west and one in Arabia at the end of which fire would burn forth from the Yemen, and would drive people to the place of their assembly.

Sahih Muslim Hadith 296 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

The Messenger of Allah (saws) observed: ‘When three things appear faith will not benefit one who has not previously believed, or has derived no good from his faith: the rising of the sun in its place of setting, the Dajjal, and the Beast of the earth.’

The coming of the Beast is amongst one of the Major Signs of the Day of Judgement. It will be sent as a trial to those who did not believe in the Signs of Allah Subhanah; but whoever brings faith after he has seen this manifest Sign of Allah, his faith will not be accepted.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
