Why did Allah not preserve the old books?

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

AssalamAlaikum, Brother Burhan. Hope you are in the best of health and Imaan.

Brother , i have a question about the Holy Books that were revealed to Prophet Dawood a.s. , Prophet Moosa a.s. ,Prophet Jesus a.s. My question is when these Books too were Allah`s Word and carried His message , why did not Allah Subhanah preserve them ? Why did not Allah Subhanah keep them safe from any changes like He has kept the Quran ? In Quran , Allah Subhanah has announced that He has revealed the Quran and that He Himself would protect it , then why did not Allah protect other Books ?

hope you reply to my question at the earliest.

May Allah reward you appropriately for your great services for Islam.

Answer:

Why did Allah not preserve the old books?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

May Allah Subhanah bless you and reward you immensely for asking this very important and thought-provoking question, and may He expand yours and our hearts to understand and ponder over each of His Wise Commands and Ways. Ameen.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale Imraan verses 83-85:

83 Do they (the unbelievers) seek for other than the Religion of Allah? While all creatures in the heavens and on earth have, willing or unwilling, bowed to His Will (accepted Islam) and to Him shall they all be brought back.

84 Say: "We believe in Allah and in what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma`il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes and in (Books) given to Moses, Jesus, and the Prophets from their Lord; we make no distinction between one and another among them, and to Allah do we bow our will (in Islam)."

85 If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah) never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good).

A believer cannot be a believer unless he believes in all the former Revelations of Allah Subhanah, which among them include the ‘Zuboor’ revealed to Prophet Dawood (a.s.), and the ‘Saheefas’ revealed to Prophet Ibraheem (a.s.), and the ‘Tauraat’ revealed to Prophet Musa (a.s.), and the ‘Injeel’ revealed to Prophet Isa (a.s.), etc. It is the belief of every believer that these Books were indeed the very Revelations of the Lord All Mighty, who revealed the Last and Final Message and Testament, ie. The Glorious Quran, to His Last Messenger, Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (saws).

All the former books of Allah Subhanah revealed before the Quran, and the Shariah of all the former Prophets of Allah were to a particular community and for a particular time! The missions of none of the Prophets of Allah, other than the Last Messenger of Allah, Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (saws), was to last till the Day of Judgement!

And this is absolutely evident if one ponders over the Aayahs of the Glorious Quran where Allah time and time again relates the stories of the former Prophets. Whenever these former Prophets addressed their sermons, it starts with ‘O my people…..’ or ‘Yaa Qaumi…..’; implying that their Message and their Shariah was for a particular people for a particular time!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 11 Hud

28 He (Noah) said: "O my People! See ye if (it be that) I have a Clear Sign from my Lord and that He hath sent Mercy unto me from His own Presence but that the Mercy hath been obscured from your sight? Shall we compel you to accept it when ye are averse to it?

29 "And O my People! I ask you for no wealth in return: my reward is from none but Allah: but I will not drive away (in contempt) those who believe: for verily they are to meet their Lord and ye, I see, are the ignorant ones!

30 "And O my People! Who would help me against Allah if I drove them away? Will ye not then take heed?

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 11 Hud

84 To the Madyan people (We sent) Shuaib one of their own brethren: he said: "O my People! Worship Allah: ye have no other god but Him. And give not short measure or weight: I see you in prosperity but I fear for you the Penalty of a Day that will compass (you) all round.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 11 Hud

77 When Our Messengers came to Lut he was grieved on their account and felt himself powerless (to protect) them. He said: "This is a distressful day."

78 And his people came rushing towards him and they had been long in the habit of practicing abominations. He said: "O my people! Here are my daughters: they are purer for you (if ye marry)! Now fear Allah and cover me not with shame about my guests! Is there not among you a single right-minded man?"

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Maidah

20 Remember Moses said to his people: "O my People! Call in remembrance the favor of Allah unto you when He produced prophets among you, made you kings and gave you what He had not given to any other among the peoples.”

21 "O my People! Enter the holy land which Allah hath assigned unto you and turn not back ignominiously for then will ye be overthrown to your own ruin."

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 20 Taha

90 Aaron had already before this said to them: "O my people! Ye are being tested in this: for verily your Lord is (Allah) Most Gracious: so follow me and obey my command."

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 11 Hud

50 To the `Ad People (We sent) Hud one of their own brethren. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah! Ye have no other god but Him. (Your other gods) ye do nothing but invent!

51 "O my people! I ask of you no reward for this (Message). My reward is from none but Him Who created me: will ye not then understand?

52 "And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord and turn to Him (in repentance): He will send you the skies pouring abundant rain and add strength to your strength: so turn ye not back in sin!"

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 11 Hud

61 To the Thamud People (We sent) Salih one of their own brethren. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah: ye have no other god but Him. It is He Who hath produced you from the earth and settled you therein: then ask forgiveness of Him and turn to Him (in repentance): for my Lord is (always) near ready to answer."

62 They said: "O Salih! Thou hast been of us! A center of our hopes hitherto! Dost thou (now) forbid us the worship of what our fathers worshipped? But we are really in suspicious (disquieting) doubt as to that to which thou invitest us."

63 He said: "O my people! Do ye see? if I have a Clear (Sign) from my Lord and He hath sent Mercy unto me from Himself who then can help me against Allah if I were to disobey Him? What then would ye add to my (portion) but perdition?

64 "And O my people! This she-camel of Allah is a symbol to you: leave her to feed on Allah's (free) earth and inflict no harm on her or a swift Penalty will seize you!

But when one studies the Quran, he will realize that all the sermons are addressed to all mankind in general with the terms, ‘O mankind!….’, or ‘O ye Children of Adam…..’, or ‘O ye who believe…..’, or ‘O ye disbelievers…..’.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Nisaa

170 O mankind! The Messenger (Mohamed (saws)) hath come to you in truth from Allah: believe in him: it is best for you. But if ye reject faith to Allah belong all things in the heavens and on earth: and Allah is All-Knowing All-Wise.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Hajj

1 O mankind! Fear your Lord! For the convulsion of the Hour (of Judgment) will be a thing terrible!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Hajj

5 O mankind! If ye have a doubt about the Resurrection (consider) that We created you out of dust then out of sperm then out of a leech-like clot then out a morsel of flesh partly formed and partly unformed in order that We may manifest (Our Power) to you; and We cause whom We will to rest in the wombs for an appointed term then do We bring you out as babes then (foster you) that ye may reach your age of full strength; and some of you are called to die and some are sent back to the feeblest old age so that they know nothing after having known (much). And (further) thou seest the earth barren and lifeless but when We pour down rain on it it is stirred (to life) it swells and it puts forth every kind of beautiful growth (in pairs).

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Aaraaf

26 O ye children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover your shame as well as to be an adornment to you but the raiment of righteousness that is the best. Such are among the signs of Allah that they may receive admonition!

27 O ye children of Adam! let not satan seduce you in the same manner as he got your parents out of the garden stripping them of their raiment to expose their shame: for he and his tribe watch you from a position where ye cannot see them: We made the evil ones friends (only) to those without faith.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Aaraaf

31 O children of Adam! Wear your beautiful apparel at every time and place of prayer: eat and drink: but waste not by excess for Allah loveth not the wasters.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 33 Ahzaab

41 O ye who believe! Celebrate the praises of Allah and do this often;

42 And glorify Him morning and evening.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 33 Ahzaab

49 O ye who believe! When ye marry believing women and then divorce them before ye have touched them no period of `Iddah have ye to count in respect of them: so give them a present and set them free in a handsome manner.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 49 Hujurat

11 O ye who believe! Let not some men among you laugh at others: it may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): Nor let some women laugh at others: it may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): nor defame nor be sarcastic to each other nor call each other by (offensive) nicknames: Ill-seeming is a name connoting wickedness (to be used of one) after he has believed: And those who do not desist are (Indeed) doing wrong.

12 O ye who believe! Avoid suspicion as much (as possible): for suspicion in some cases is a sin: and spy not on each other nor speak ill of each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Nay ye would abhor it...but fear Allah: for Allah is Oft-Returning Most Merciful.

13 O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise each other). Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 66 Tahreem

6 O ye who believe! Save yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is Men and Stones over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe who flinch not (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allah but do (precisely) what they are commanded.

7 (They will say) "O ye Unbelievers! Make no excuses this day! Ye are being but requited for all that ye did!"

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 8 Anfaal

20 O ye who believe! Obey Allah and His Messenger, and turn not away from him when ye hear (him speak).

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 8 Anfaal

24 O ye who believe! Give your response to Allah and His apostle when He calleth you to that which will give you life; and know that Allah cometh in between a man and his heart and that it is He to whom Ye shall (all) be gathered.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 8 Anfaal

27 O ye that believe! Betray not the trust of Allah and the Messenger, nor misappropriate knowingly things entrusted to you.

Thus, in conclusion, when the world was ready for One Global and Universal Message that would supercede all the Shariahs and last till the end of time, Allah Subhanah in His Perfect Wisdom and Knowledge sent His Last and Final Messenger, Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (saws) with His Last and Final Revelation, The Al-Quran. And Allah Subhanah thus guaranteed the authenticity and survivability of His Glorious Revelation until the end of time, so that no man could have an excuse that the Message of his Lord never reached him in its perfect form!

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
