Can Syedna see into the future and knows what is best for us ?

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalam-Maleikum Brother Burhan. I have been going through your website for the last few days, though I belong to a very devout Bohra family, I sometimes doubted the Bohra beliefs inspite of me going to the Bohra rituals and functions regularly. I thought there was something wrong with me for having doubts about what the Aamil Saheb used to preach in his `Bayan` since I seldom found things to be logical. Nevertheless I just attended for the sake of it thinking that I may be able to understand things better some day. I was told several times about the Miracles of the Syedna and that made me think may be the Bohras were the chosen ones. I truly appreciate the work you are doing here and opening my eyes to the truth. My parents strongly feel that the Syedna can see into the future and knows what is best for us and keep on sending lot of Araz to the Syedna. Anyways I have the following questions in my mind:1. What exactly is being Possessed by an evil spirit? One of my relatives went through this Trauma some time back and was taken to Burhanpur and then when he returned he was normal. Is this a miracle since I have also seen similar things at Galiyakot?2. In of your answers I read that through dreams Allah Subhanu can tell us things and is one of the forty six parts of prophetism. What are the remaining forty five? I am asking you this question because I keep on hearing people say through Ilham some learned people can see into the future and can also judge people by merely looking at their faces.

Answer:

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 6.298         Narrated by Abu Huraira

The Messenger of Allah (saws) said, "No child is born except on Al-Fitra (Perfect Nature of Islam) and it is his parents who make him a Jew, a Christian or a Magian.” Then he (saws) recited:

"The religion of pure Islamic Faith (Hanifa),(i.e. to worship none but Allah), The pure Allah's Islamic nature with which He (Allah) has created mankind.  Let There be no change in Allah's religion. That is the straight religion; but most of men know not..."  (Al-Quran 30.30)

Dear and Beloved Brother in Islam, every child who is born is born on ‘Al-Fitrah’ or the Perfect Nature, and it is his parents who teach him their beliefs.  But when a child gets to the age of understanding, he sees and hears and understand what goes on around him in the name of religion, and his heart longs to return back to the natural religion of submission to one’s One and Only Creator.  It is as this juncture of one’s life whereby one seeks true guidance and accepts it wholeheartedly, or kills the calling of his heart and thus rejects guidance due to various reasons like upheaval in the family, repercussions from the religious leaders and society, etc.  And that is precisely the test our Lord Creator has ordained for mankind; who amongst His creation use their bestowed intelligence and ‘free will’ to accept His Message and His Guidance and submit to Him, and who amongst mankind reject Him and/or associate other deities with Him.

Every person who denied the clear Message and Guidance of his Lord, today and in the times gone by, said the same thing:

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 31  Surah Luqman verse 21:

And when it is said to them, “Follow what Allah has sent down”,  they say, “We shall only follow that upon which we found our forefathers.”   What!  Will they still be following them even if Shaitaan had been calling them to the raging Fire?

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 170-171:

When it is said to them, “Follow the Commands that Allah has sent down”,  they reply, “We will follow only what we found our forefathers practising.”  Well,  will they go on following their forefathers even though they did not use common sense and did not find the Right Way!  The mental condition of those who rejected the way of Allah may be likened to that of the cattle whom the shepherd calls but they hear nothing except the sound of shouts and cries.   They are deaf,  they are dumb,  they are blind;  therefore they do not understand anything.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 34 Surah Saba  verse 43:

When Our clear Revelations are recited to these people,  they say,  “This person only wants to turn you away from those deities whom your forefathers have been worshipping.”

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 43 Surah Zukhruf  verse 22-25:

Nay!  But they say, “We found our forefathers on a way and we are only walking in their footsteps.”  Even so,  whenever before you We sent a warner to a habitation,  its people of means said, “We have found our forefathers on a way and we are only following in their footsteps.”   Every Prophet asked them, “Will you still go on following the same old way even if I guide you to a more right way than that you found your forefathers following?”   They replied, “We disbelieve the religion with which you have been sent.”  Consequently,  We took vengeance on them.  Just consider what was the end of those who denied.

Your Statement: My parents strongly feel that the Syedna can see into the future and knows what is best for us and keep on sending lot of Araz to the Syedna.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 31 Surah Luqman verse 34:

34      Verily the knowledge of the Hour is with Allah (Alone).  It is He (Alone) Who sends down rain and He (Alone) Who knows what is in the wombs.  Nor does anyone know what it is that he will earn on the morrow: nor does anyone know in what land he is to die.  Verily with Allah is full knowledge and He is acquainted (with all things)

Dear and Beloved Brother, amongst the Absolutely Exclusive Attributes of Allah Subhanah is that He Alone is The All-Knowing, The All-Seeing and The All-Hearing; and He Alone has perfect Knowledge of everything that happened in the past and will happen in the future.  Nothing, absolutely nothing, is hidden from the Knowledge of the Lord All-Mighty.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam verses 59-60:

59      With Him (Allah) are the keys of the Unseen, the treasures that none Knows but He.  He Knows whatever there is on the earth and in the sea. Not a leaf doth fall but with His knowledge: there is not a grain in the darkness (or depths) of the earth, nor anything fresh or dry (green or withered), but is (inscribed) in a Record Clear.

60      It is He (Allah) Who doth take your souls by night and hath Knowledge of all that ye have done by day.  By day doth He raise you up again; that a term appointed be fulfilled; in the end unto Him will be your return, then will He show you the truth of all that ye did.

Not even the Noble Prophets of Allah ever claimed that they had the knowledge of the future or the unseen, except that which Allah Subhanah pleased to reveal to them by ‘wahi’ or inspiration.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraaf verses 187-188:

187    They ask thee (O Prophet) about the (final) Hour, when will be its appointed time?  Say: "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord (Alone): none but He can reveal as to when it will occur.  Heavy were its burden through the heavens and the earth.  Only all of a sudden will it come to you. They ask thee as if thou wert eager in search thereof: Say: "The knowledge thereof is with Allah (Alone) but most men know not."

188    Say (Prophet (saws)): "I have no power over any good or harm to myself except as Allah willeth.  If I had knowledge of the unseen I should have multiplied all good and no evil should have touched me; I am but a warner and a bringer of glad tidings to those who have faith."

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam verses 48-51:

48      We send the Messengers only to give good news and to warn: so those who believe and mend (their lives), upon them shall be no fear nor shall they grieve.

49      But those who reject Our Signs, them shall our punishment touch for that they ceased not from transgressing.

50      Say (O Prophet (saws)): "I tell you not that with me are the treasures of Allah, nor do I know what is hidden, nor do I tell you I am an Angel.  I but follow what is revealed to me."  Say: "Can the blind be held equal to the seeing?"  Will ye then consider not?

51      Give the warning to those in whose (hearts) is the fear that they will be brought (to judgment) before their Lord: except from Him they will have no protector nor intercessor: that they may guard (against evil).

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 6.378         Narrated by Masruq

I said to 'Aisha, "O Mother of the Believers! Did Prophet Muhammad (saws) see his Lord?"  Aisha said, "What you have said makes my hair stand on end! Know that if somebody tells you one of the following three things, he is a liar:

  1. Whoever tells you that Muhammad (saws) saw his Lord, is a liar.
  2. And whoever tells you that the Prophet (saws) knows what is going to happen tomorrow, is a liar."
  3. And whoever tells you that he concealed (some of Allah's orders), is a liar."

Your Statement again: My parents strongly feel that the Syedna can see into the future and knows what is best for us and keep on sending lot of Araz to the Syedna.

If anyone in creation claims that he can see into the future, or has knowledge of the future, etc.; Allah is our witness brother, he is a confirmed and manifest liar!

If anyone feels or believes that anyone other than Allah Subhanah has knowledge of the future or the unseen, they would be guilty of sharing one of Allah’s Absolutely Exclusive Attributes with one amongst His creation; and that would be a clear and manifest form of the heinous and unforgivable crime of ‘shirk’!

Allah says in the Quran: Chapter 4 Surah An-Nisa Verse 48
’Shirk’ is the only sin that Allah does not forgive, and He forgives, whomsoever He pleases, sins other than this.  For whosoever associates any other partner with Allah, does indeed forge a big lie and commits the most heinous sin

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 72:

Whoever commits ‘shirk’. Allah shall forbid for him Paradise,  and Hell shall be his abode.  And for such wrong doers there will be no one to help.

Your Question: What exactly is being Possessed by an evil spirit? One of my relatives went through this Trauma some time back and was taken to Burhanpur and then when he returned he was normal. Is this a miracle since I have also seen similar things at Galiyakot?
Allah Subhanah declares in the Glorious Quran about the creation of Angels, Jinn and Men.

Ghosts, ‘Daakans’,  ‘Churails’, ‘bhoots’, etc.  are nothing but whims,  fantasies,  imaginations,  and conjectures of people who,  in their ignorance, give each of these self-created names their own self-invented and imaginative characteristics.   These have absolutely no reality and are not amongst the creations of Allah Subhanah!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraaf verse 27:

27      O ye children of Adam!  Let not the Shaytaan seduce you in the same manner as he got your parents (Adam and Hawwa) out of the Garden stripping them of their raiment to expose their shame: for he (The Shaytaan) and his tribe watch you from a position where ye cannot see them: We made the Shayateen friends (only) to those without faith.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 114 Surah An-Naas verses 4-6:

4        (Say: I seek refuge in Allah) From the mischief of the Whisperer (of Evil, The Shaytaan) who withdraws (after his whisper)

5        (The same) who whispers into the hearts of mankind

6        Among Jinns and among Men.

In light of the guidance of the Glorious Quran, Allah Subhanah makes it absolutely clear that the Shayateen amongst the Jinns see us, but we cannot see them; and the absolute maximum power they posses is that they may whisper some evil into the hearts of man and incite him to do transgress the boundaries and laws of Allah!

The Jinns have their own lives and they too, like man, are involved in a test by their Lord Creator; but Allah is our witness, just as man cannot possess another man or a jinn, the jinn just do not possess the power to posses another jinn or any amongst mankind!

Even logically this notion of being ‘possessed-by-a-jinn’ is absolutely a false and bogus notion!  Just imagine if a man/woman who commits a crime like theft, ‘zina’, murder, etc. and when brought to trial in a normal court of law tells the judge that he was ‘possessed-by-a-jinn’ and it was actually a jinn who committed the crime and not him?  Will the judge ever accept his claim?

Besides, if a jinn could posses a person, then the whole system of life and the ‘test’ ordained upon man by Allah Subhanah would be in absolute jeopardy; for man is only responsible in the Court of Allah for what he does of his own free will!!!

Your Question (again): What exactly is being Possessed by an evil spirit? One of my relatives went through this Trauma some time back and was taken to Burhanpur and then when he returned he was normal. Is this a miracle since I have also seen similar things at Galiyakot?
Beloved brother, every disbelieving people have their own sets and sessions of removing the ‘evil spirit’ from a ‘possessed’ person, be they amongst the Jews, the Christians, the Hindus and unfortunately now even amongst those who claim to be Muslims!

The Christian ‘evangelists’ and priests remove the so-called ‘evil-spirits’ in the name of Jesus, the Hindus remove them through their idols, and unfortunately some who claim to be muslims remove these so-called but non-existent ‘evil-spirits’ through the graves of their pious!!!  The disbelieving priests, sadhus, and ‘mullahs’ use this ‘super-natural-miracle’ to fool their followers into their subjugation and through these fancy rituals take them away from the Straight Path of Allah!

Allah is our witness brother, in light of the clear guidance of the Quran and the Sunnah, there is absolutely no such thing as being ‘possessed-by-evil spirits’ simply because the ‘evil-spirits’ just do not possess that kind of power!  What you witnessed at Burhanpur and Galiyakot, without an iota of a doubt, is an absolute sham and a means by the unscrupulous and self-invented ‘holy men’ to increase the invocation and worship of the grave-deities they have invented!

Your Question: In of your answers I read that through dreams Allah Subhanu can tell us things and is one of the forty six parts of prophetism. What are the remaining forty five? I am asking you this question because I keep on hearing people say through Ilham some learned people can see into the future and can also judge people by merely looking at their faces.

Al-Muwatta Hadith 52.3

Yahya related from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam from Ata ibn Yasar that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said, "All that will be left of Prophecy after me are the ‘mubashshirat’."  They asked, "What are the ‘mubashshirat’, O Messenger of Allah (saws)?"  He (saws) replied, "The true dream which a man who is righteous  sees - or which is shown to him - is a forty-sixth part of prophecy."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 9.144         Narrated by Abu Huraira

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "When the Day of Resurrection approaches, the dreams of a believer will hardly fail to come true, and a dream of a believer is one of forty-six parts of Prophetism; and whatever belongs to prothetism can never be false."  Muhammad bin Sirin said, "But I say this." He said, "It used to be said, 'There are three types of dreams: The reflection of one's thoughts and experiences one has during wakefulness, what is suggested by the Shaytaan to frighten the dreamer, or glad tidings from Allah.  So, if someone has a dream which he dislikes, he should not tell it to others, but get up and offer a prayer.'

Your Question: In of your answers I read that through dreams Allah Subhanu can tell us things and is one of the forty six parts of prophetism. What are the remaining forty five?

First and foremost, none has the power to see or chose to see ‘good’ dreams by himself; if Allah Subhanah Wills and Pleases, He may show a ‘good’ dream to any amongst His righteous believing slaves, and Allah Alone Knows who amongst His worshippers are righteous and worthy of this honor.

The difference between a Prophet of Allah and a normal human being is that the Prophets of Allah are guided through ‘wahi’ or ‘Inspiration’ bestowed upon them by Allah Subhanah.  The above narration of the Prophet (saws) only means to depict that if the whole office of Prophethood were divided into forty six parts, one part of it would be the true visions which Allah shows to one amongst His righteous believing slaves.

Your Question: I am asking you this question because I keep on hearing people say through Ilham some learned people can see into the future and can also judge people by merely looking at their faces.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 5 (part):

This day have I (Allah) perfected your religion for you, completed my favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.

Beloved Brother, with the death of the Last and Final Messenger, the guidance of Islam was absolutely complete and perfect, the Quran completely revealed and explained, and the Sunnah or Way of the Prophet (saws) completely established.  Nothing can be added or subtracted to this perfect deen of Islam!

Thus one amongst the righteous believers is blessed with a true vision from His Lord, it is only as a form of ‘glad tidings’ for himself; and the person who is honored to receive such ‘glad tidings’ from His Lord Most Gracious must remain humble, be extremely grateful to His Lord for His immense favors, and strive to make himself worthy of the honor that His Lord has granted him.

The righteous believers who are blessed with the dreams of ‘mubashirat’ (glad tidings from Allah) are truly humble, and would never go about announcing that their piety and righteous to people around them; but rather they would be amongst those who would weep at the immense honor their Lord has bestowed upon and increase their worship and their obedience and strive to make themselves worthy of such an honor.

The people who stand tall and arrogantly claim that they are ‘learned’ and announce to mankind their so-called ‘piety’, and declare that they have been honored by their Lord to receive true dreams, more often than not are absolute liars!  Such people are more interested in being known as ‘pious’ in the sight of man, rather than being truly pious in the Sight of Allah Subhanah!  May Allah Subhanah save the believers from the evil of such arrogant and impious people!

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
