Can we change our takdeer in term...

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalamu Alaikum.
Can we change our takdeer in terms of when we die? if we pray to Allah to give some more time to ask for forgiveness? or will we go when it is written in our taqdeer?
JazakAllah.

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

My dear Beloved sister in Islam, one should always pray for longevity so that one can make amends and ask for forgiveness and mercy. It is entirely in Allah swt hand to grant the prayers of His slaves or not. The fact is that Allah swt knows from His infinite wisdom and knowledge what one in His creation will supplicate in the future. The time of death has been decreed at inception because the supplication and acceptance/non-acceptance as per His will has been factored in. That is why one is not wrong when one says that death cannot be altered as it is already written in our taqdeer. But then our supplication for an extension is also written in our taqdeer. But we are not aware of all this only Allah swt knows the past, present and the future. So we should fear Allah swt and make as many legal supplications as possible. It is another thing that Allah swt knows before hand when and what we will supplicate. That should not deter us from making our supplications.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
