ANSWER:

Where should the woman place her hands while praying?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and who-ever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The Glorious Quran commands the believers to establish prayer and strictly guard the obligatory prayers. It is silent on the ‘arqaans’ or the actual ritual of prayer, which was taught to Prophet Mohamed (saws) by Hadrat Gibrael himself, in the beginning of his appointment of Prophethood in Makkah. The Messenger of Allah (saws) himself prayed exactly as Gibrael taught him, and he (saws) taught the same to the believers.

All the scholars of Islam are unanimous in regards to where a woman should keep her hands while praying. The right hand should be over the left hand, and the hands should be over her breasts. Please note that the hands should not be above the breasts, nor under the breasts, but exactly over the breasts.

And Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

May Allah guide you and us all to the Siraat al-Mustaqeem

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
