Women Staying away from husband during pregnancy

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Asalamulikum... My husband is wants me to go back to my home country during my pregnancy and stay ther for more than 6 months, I don’t want to go, I dont want to go, I want my husband to stay with me throughout my pregnancy. Is it allowed for women to stay for so long from her husband? What does Islam says about husband being with her wife during her pregnancy? I have heard that absence of husband during pregnancy will cause stress for the wife.......also advise me the virtues of pregnant women. Please advise me, Your immediate action is highly appreciated.

Answer:

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sister there is no Islamic ruling on something like where one can deliver a child. This has to be a mutual decision taken by the couple. There could be many reasons why the husband would prefer the wife to deliver her child in the home country ie: financial difficulty, nobody to assist for post natal care, etc..

The wife is within her rights to request her husbands presence but she should be flexible to her husband's concerns. The decision should be taken considering all the aspects of health, safety and post natal responsibilities.

In many countries it is the tradition that the women deliver their first child at least at her mother's house. This is because there is a lot of care to be taken and the wife feels most comfortable in her mother's house where she can avail of all the facilities and help from her sisters and brothers etc..

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is only ones. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
