What does Allah say about Earthquakes?

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear Mr. Burhan Bhai,

Many thanks for the 06 Archive copies of Sabak and it was worth reading and beautifully understandable.

I will appreciate if you send some more and if possible try to summarise the meaning of the whole Holy Qura'an, I know it is NOT POSSIBLE, but try in Chapters 1-10 or so, as brief as possible, the main points, and send it by email in English to enable me to get a full picture and understand the Qura'an and Allah's message.  I will really appreciate this.

Meanwhile, can you pls separately advise me the Surah and the meaning from the Holy Qura'an about  " Earthquake ".  What has Allah said about Earthquake, the cause and its significance.

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

What does Allah say about Earthquakes?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and who-ever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your comment: Summarization of the whole Holy Quran in English.

Brother, I have never tried doing this, but I will give it a try. But I will need some time for this. The Holy Quran was sent as a guidance to mankind and the best way is to read the whole Quran in a language that you understand, in the manner it was compiled by Allah and His Messenger (saws). That is the best way to guide oneself to Islam.

The whole Quran revolves around the concept of “Tawheed” or the worship of One-God. That is the central theme of the Glorious Quran. If we were to give one aayah that would form the central basis of the Glorious Quran, it would be aayah 36 in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisa: Worship Allah Alone, and associate none with Him as a partner.

Your comment: The significance of earthquakes as mentioned in the Quran.

There are many aayahs in the Holy Quran regarding earthquakes, but all of them imply the earthquake of the start of the Day of Judgment.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 99 Surah Zilzaal verse 1-3: When the earth is shaken with her utmost shaking, and the earth casts out all the burden from within her, and man says, “What has befallen her?”.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Surah Hajj verse 1-2: O mankind, save yourseves from the Wrath of your Lord. The fact is that the earthquake of the Resurrection is a terrible thing. The Day you behold it, you will see that every suckling woman will forsake her suckling; and every pregnant female will cast her burden; and the people will appear to you in a drunken state, though they will not be drunk! But the torment of Allah will be so dreadful.

The earthquakes that we experience in this world today are just a pre-runner to the earthquake of the end of time. The earthquakes are one of the signs of Allah and their coming are absolutely in Allah’s control. Even with all the technology available in the world today, the geologists are not able to point out where and when is the next earthquake going to strike! Allah Alone knows where and when his ‘adhaab’ is going to come.

It is the Mercy of Allah that the earth is stable and we are able to build and live on it in peace. But mankind seldom appreciates and thanks Allah for these and all the other blessings. It is only when we experience the wrath of Allah’s revenge, that we begin to call on Him to help us. And no sooner than He stops the torment, we go back to our ignorant ways of invoking and thanking other gods along with Allah. The same earth which is calm and stable today, can with one order of Allah, sink mankind and everything he builds on it, in a matter of minutes!!

Earthquakes are a sign amongst the signs of Allah, and all power to bring or stop earthquakes are in the control of no one else but Allah Alone!

May Allah save you and us all from the torment of the Final Day. May Allah guide you and us all to the Straight Path of Islam.

May Allah guide you and us all to the Siraat al-Mustaqeem

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
