Performing sujood on table: salamalaikum my granny performs prayers while sitting on chair and table , she performs sajood by placing her forehead and palms on the table top . one of the imams say that in such situation , sajood should be performed by action alone. They believe that the act of placing forehead and palms is to be done on groundsurface only . please guide us jazakAllah

Reported 'Umar ibn Hussain, "I had some physical problem, so I asked the Prophet (saws) about the prayer, and he said, 'Pray standing; if you are not able to stand then sit and pray, if you are not able to (do even that), then pray (while lying) on your side." Related by al-Bukhari.

If your grandmother is unable to stand and offer her prayers, there is allowance in Shariah for her to sit (on the floor, on a chair, on a raised platform, etc.) and offer her prayers. To the best of our knowledge, we have not come accross any hadith which specifically prohibits a person from placing their foreheads and palms on a table-top while offerring their prayers in a sitting position, but if your grandmother were to perform the sajdah by action alone without placing her forehead and palm on the table-top, that too would more than suffice.
